George V era, about 1915. I’m sure that someone will post the Scott no. Good luck with the rest of what you have!
Sorry to hear about your brother.
This stamp is a late King George V definitive issue from Great Britain, issued 1934-1936. Stanley Gibbons is the standard catalogue for British stamps and this item is most likely identified as SG #439, value 50p in very fine used condition. The image of the stamp posted shows some wear but this could be the result of a less than clean scan.
The stamp was issued in sheets but also in booklets. The paper was watermarked with the block cypher showing the crown and G v R (wmk SG #111). Some stamps have an inverted or sideways or sideways and inverted watermark. The value of those with the inverted watermark is listed as 3 times the normal, i.e. £1.50 instead of 50p. A sideways watermark is valued at 10 times the normal, i.e. £5. A sideways and inverted watermark is much rarer and catalogues at £150.
Dave,
Delighted you are spending some time entering your brother's world.
You received two very different responses; both of them are correct; both showcase that the way you approach your brother's collection is completely up to you.
Feel free to ask; and you can also tell us what you aspects of our answers are useful to you.
If you end up spending time with the collection, you might want to get a catalogue that will both help you identify stamps and give you a common language with other collectors.
Enjoy
David

I am worse than a newby here - I am completely ignorant about stamp collecting. My older brother passed about 5 years ago and I was recently given an old album that consists mostly of partial mint sheets from the late 1950's through about 1969. Unfortunately, his roof had collapsed at some point and some of the sheets are damaged - questions about that for another time.
There were a few stamps in the album that were a good bit older than that. This one looked interesting to me. Can anyone give me an idea if what this is and how old it is? I'm actually a coin collector, so I have an appreciation of the history behind things of this nature.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
Dave
