Italy Scott 238
Funny thing I just noticed in the Scott catalogue. As a footnote it says "The premium on some of the stamps was given to the committee for the celebration of the centenary". This is more or less how a semi-postal is defined, but this is in the regular listing. Scott is unbeatable when it comes to logic!
Thanks Jan-Simon: No "Situational Awareness" on my part. I wrongly assumed it was a "Semi-Postal" and didn't check otherwise! Duh!
Scott's note in Italy Semi-Postals at the start reads: "Many issues of Italy and Italian Colonies include one or more semi-postal denominations. To avoid splitting sets, these issues are generally listed as regular postage, airmail, etc. unless all values carry a surtax."
Which makes perfect sense, except I can't think of any other country or area where Scott follows a similar practice!
For everyone else, when this occurs, Scott will either footnote the other stamps with a 'See also', and/or show a set price listing and combining all the relevant issues.
I had not seen that remark and I agree that it makes sense. The whole split between "regular" and "semipostals" is rather arbitrary and artificial, especially when one is as inconsistent in following their own rules as Scott is...
Searched both countries in Scott's without success. Need to classify this beautiful MNH stamp.
