not sure if this helps, but France was the "sponsor" for what becomes Lebanon and Syria after the first world war. does that help?
David, No, but thanks for taking a shot at it. I acquired a lot at the local club and it does have some interesting lots included, but this was the most aggravating lot. I have checked Wiki without any help, which sort of surprised me. I was under the impression they knew just about every, or maybe everything but not Levant!

They appear in Scott under Austrian offices abroad, Lombardy-Venetia.
Levant typically refers to French North Africa and/or the area surrounding Palestine
Well, once again I have made an error, I have found them on the Hipstamps site. I swear I checked them earlier today and they showed nothing available, but now one dealer from GB has a lot of them listed. Whodathinkit!

I had the pleasure of being shown around the old Austrian Post Office in Jerusalem last summer. A lovely old building, now an information centre. It closed in 1917 after General Allenby rode into the city on his horse after victory over the Turks. The Ottoman Empire was about to fall.
Great stamps, great history.

Looking for information on where to find Levant stamps issued by Austria in Scott's catalog or if it is even there! I have found French and British but not a word about Austria. I assume these are from WW1, but of course, realize the dangers of assuming anything! The envelopes that contain the stamps have a Scott # on them, but that doesn't mention what year catalog it was found in. I did learn a lot about the occupation of Levant in WW2 that was very interesting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Mike
