I think the mystery cancel came from the UK. The bottom portion probably says "STATION OFFICE" similar to this cancel from Hastings shown below:

The top portion will be a town in the UK starting with "HO"
Here is a list from Google:
Hockley Heath, West Midlands
Hockley, Essex
Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire
Holbeach, Lincolnshire
Holbeton, Devon
Holborn, Greater London
Hollingbourne, Kent
Holloway, Greater London
Holmes Chapel, Cheshire
Holmfirth, West Yorkshire
Holsworthy, Devon
Holt, Norfolk
Holt, Wiltshire
Holwell, Dorset
Holy Island, Northumberland
Holyhead, Gwynedd
Holywell, Flintshire
Holywood, County Down
Honiton, Devon
Honley, West Yorkshire
Hook Norton, Oxfordshire
Hook, Hampshire
Hope, Derbyshire
Horley, Surrey
Horncastle, Lincolnshire
Hornchurch, Essex
Horndean, Hampshire
Horningsham, Wiltshire
Hornsea, East Riding Of Yorkshire
Hornsey, Greater London
Horsforth, West Yorkshire
Horsham, West Sussex
Horspath, Oxfordshire
Horton Kirby, Kent
Horton, Northamptonshire
Horwich, Greater Manchester
Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire
Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear
Hounslow, Middlesex
Hove, East Sussex
Howden, East Riding Of Yorkshire
Hoxton, Greater London
Hoylake, Merseyside
Hoyland, South Yorkshire
These are possible names for the top portion. You need to find a cover cancelled with one of these names over STATION OFFICE.
Hope this helps,
Linus
From the list, it looks like only "Hope, Derbyshire" could match the cancel on the stamp....to me, at least.
My two best guesses would be "HORLEY STATION OFFICE" as Horley is a railroad town, or "HORSHAM STATION OFFICE" as Horsham is also a railroad town.

It could be something else entirely, but I do not think there are enough letters showing to ever know 100% what it is.

Hi Linus,
HORSHAM would be a better fit in terms of symmetry.
The town name should be centered above the date.
Does anyone have any info on this cancellation? US C9. Never seen anything like this.....

That cancel is New York City Hudson Terminal (H.T. stands for Hudson Terminal)

Thank you Linus!
Fascinating history of the Hudson Terminal. Huge political fight between NY and NJ, the site would be demolished and become the site of the Twin Towers of the WTC and part of the cast iron tube for the train was embedded in the WTC foundation!

Hi
Can anyone identify the right hand cancel - Ho.... around the top of the cancel and Stati.... on the bottom - any ideas of which country - I am assuming it is an arrival cancellation rather than a security mark or Forwarding mark ( and I have extensively checked
http://rodsell.com/hksmsic/hksmsic.html ) - as the cancel does seem to sit over the Hong Kong cancel
any ideas?

Thanks
