How the Royal Mail tried to coverup the problems the new system caused Sub postmasters ,being told they were stealing money when all the time it was the Horizon system causing the problems people went to jail other lost their houses one even committed suicide.
While the GPO carried on taking people's livelihoods away from them.
Just up to were the GPO has admitted there was a problem and has offered £20,000.000 in compensation.But the problem still remains that the people that were jailed are still classed as criminals.
this battle has been going on for 20 years !!!!!
Will be very interested to see how it finishes?

King Charles has taken away the C.B.E. that Paula Vennells was awarded. She was head of the Post Office during the latter part of the scandal.
What has not been revealed is what happened in the Post Offices run by the Post Office itself as it appears only the sub postmasters were prosecuted NOT the managers of the Post Offices directly owned by the Post Office. Surely they were having losses as well!!
The levels of compensation offered to the sub postmasters are a pittance for what they have gone through.

It is a long time since a TV drama has had such an effect on British government policy and the repercussions are still rolling through the present and past government ministers. In the 1960s and 70s there were TV dramas that changed attitudes to the housing shortage and abortion, but not so much since. There is talk about a planned drama on the 'tainted blood' scandal being made which could cause the governments past and present similar problems. This is where medical blood products were bought from the US with no testing for diseases.

I understand PBS is going to show this in the US in April 7, 2024, as part of the Masterpiece Theater. Hope those running the USPS are watching!

We have a TV series running out here at the moment called Mr Bates verses the Post office. A true story about fujitsu's Horizon program written for the Royal Mail.
