In my boxes i found a letter (sadly no cover) from a person in Palestine offering high value stamps from Palestine,Syria, Grand Lebanon etc; i like history but its not in my area of interest. If anyone has interest in this sort of thing just message me. If i am in the wrong area could some kind moderator send it to the right area. philImage Not Found

this is the first time I've seen "Acre" as a name for Palestine. Can anyone provide history, context?

Lovely letter and history, Phil

Acre is a city along the coast of what was an Ottoman zone, then Palestine and then became Israel. Its monuments date back to its life as a Crusader fortress. The Bahais have their main temple there.

The Bahai main temple is in Haifa 40 Kms south of Acre (Akko).

Post-War, if anyone should visit Israel, Akko should be at or near the top of the visitor list. A truly exceptional coastal Crusader city. But I am off to check about the earthquake........

Phil......can you scan the letter ? I'd like to see what was written. The earthquake was further south and would not have affected Akko too much. Fun learning about it.

Mike, how can i refuse a request from you ! Between my meager scanner and myself we will give it a try. The handwritten letter is quite long...a good page and a half. Hope you can get an idea from the scan...perhaps it can be blown up to make it more readable. I remember Acre from the Richard the Lionhearted crusader movies.
