General Philatelic/Identify This? : Unidentified Turkey stamp

I believe this is an early Turkey stamp ... note crescent moon and star ... but can find no reference to it in catalogues. Can anyone advise if it is Turkish and year of use?Image Not Found THANKS for any response.

Hello Jack,

Yes, it's a 2 paras Turkish revenue stamp used for tax on newspapers and advertisements. It was first issued in 1891.

These were applied to the newspaper or ad before it was printed so you can find all kinds of printing on top. In this case the printing is in French.
