I just went to the post office and ordered two first day covers and two booklets of 10 stamps each, one each for me and my friend, for just over $31. I might have done better here but I was happy with the price and now it is done. They charged a bit over $5 for shipping and handling which seems OK. The local post office also gets in a display version of the year set book without stamps. Since the article in the book was so good I asked for that as well and after the end of the month they will just give it to me and I'll pass it on to Catherine! Everything has worked out!!

Very nice posts about Donald Sutherland and the new stamp. One of my favorite moves in which he starred was the original move "MASH" which spawned a very popular TV series as well. It will be very interesting to see if they ever report how many cards he receives!
I have sent a recent postcard of Bridgewater to Donald Sutherland I currently live next door to his family home.
He lived there while attending and graduating from Bridgewater High School. I would love to get a response from him...
but that will be wishful thinking on my part....Sadly none of the Bridgewater NS ties are mentioned in his bio with the stamp.
A funny aside.. going through a hoard of FDCs I purchased, I found a Lorne Greene cover. Then I noticed it was Canadian. I was all set to toss it in my “foreign cover” box when I had a second thought.. it was a nice looking cover and I have free listings on eBay so what the heck, I listed it.
I was surprised when it sold instantly! A lady in the US bought it and left glowing feedback that she was Lorne’s biggest fan and was very pleased to get that cover!

I just picked up my 2023 year book of stamps from the post office yesterday and noticed there was a stamp to honour 88 year old Donald Sutherland. He was always one of my favourite actors, his role in Kelly's Heroes always makes me smile!! He also has a local connection for me. When I was much younger in the 1950s and 1960s the only radio station we had constant access to was CKBW in Bridgewater. His first entertainment job was as a news anchor there at age 14.
A friend of mine is lucky enough to be related to the Sutherland family and has met who she calls "Uncle Donald" a couple times. I told her that the next time she has to get me an autograph. She is not a stamp collector and is away for the holidays and will be very surprised, as I was, when she sees the article in the book and the stamp. She's not really a collector of "things" but I'm sure she'd appreciate a first day cover, they should be easy to find. Maybe I'll get two and have her send one away to get signed! I think this is the first time he's been honoured with a stamp and it's a really nice one!
He was in one of the worst movies ever made, the movie version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was turned into one of my favourite TV series. I also remember his appearances on TV in both The Saint (1966) and The Avengers (1967 in an episode I believe that was called The Superlative Seven in the Dianna Rigg era). Along with many movies including the awful (IMHO) series Hunger Games! Quite a resume and he is still very active. I really want that autograph!!
