i don't know where to put it but i think i need another bookcase ...went from 7 2017 catalogs to 13 2022 !
Jumping 5 catalog years is mind boggling.. i could relate to most of the stamps in the 2017, i doubt i will actually see many of the colorful new stamps outside of the catalogs.
Yeah, When I started collecting, the World fit in one Scott's catalog. I should have stopped buying catalog up dates then, since most stamps I am interested in were issued pre-1950's.
The catalogs best value now is as identifiers, not prices.
Secondly, they are helpful collection organizers.
I suppose topical collectors need to remain current, but as a country collector, anything issued in the last 50 years is primarily aimed at ripping off collectors, not actually postal operations necessary. .... (I acknowledge the practice is not new, of course. Several countries pursued collector sales prior to the 1950's.)
In fact, the "never expire" sticky glue USPS stamps are all physically un-collectable and made intentionally so by the USPS.
I bet if I made a collection of all the "discount" US stamps, no one could tell if the collection was real stamps or fakes. Actually, I bet it would be appraised at face value, therefore valued more than the original 'discounted' purchase price.
I find stamp inventory software more useful than buying a new 2023/24 current catalog.

I never thought of that...perhaps thats why i collect older U.S. covers but not U.S. stamps.
i acquired my first Scott Catalogs a 2 volume set of the world in 1971. Since then i took took it for granted that each newer set would include updates over the previous one. Today i looked at the( G catalog 2022) for Guatemala and found it the same as my 2017 Catalog, nothing new in 5 years. I know Guatemala has issued new stamps since then...is Scott going to pick and chose which countries to update each year ? Its Disappointing.
I checked my online Michel and according to their listings Guatemala didn't issue any stamps from Dec 11, 2015 (Scott 721) until October 9, 2020..... Given the 2022 G volume came out I think in June 2021, those listings probably too new to make that year's edition. Hopefully someone has a 2024 catalog and can confirm if there are new listings - Michel shows 57 stamps and 6 souvenir sheets issued since 10/9/20. I'm the first one to bash Scott but I'm hoping it's just a matter of timing here, not a choice to ignore new listings.

Speaking of those counterfeit USPS Forever stamps that are being sold everywhere! Here's an interview with Wayne Youngblood, an expert on counterfeits.
The video may start near the end, just move it to the beginning. Well worth watching!
I have the 2024 "G" Scott catalog and the last stamp issued for Guatemala in the regular listing is September 17, 2022, and in the airmail section December 6, 2001. Between December 11, 2015, and September 17, 2022, in the regular listings there are 36 catalog numbers.

Fred
Fred, Thanks...first i thought you were talking about the 2022 catalog which is quite different from yours. If i have to i will get the pages for Guatemala 2024 . I do not collect the modern Guatemala but on occasion i do sell them.
Thanks Bob Gioia for updating my catalogs from 2017 to 2022 i know enough now not to ask too many questions. Some prices went down, some went up !
