I'll add these in as well! It's been awhile! Abklatsch means a total offset printing. The two abklatsch stamps I picked up on SOR and the printed on gum side I picked up from somewhere in my early collecting years.
I am one of the few SOR members lucky enough to meet Joe personally and see his Canada album live. He even let me CAREFULLY take some very high CV stamps out of the mounts ON THIS PAGE to see them "in vivo".
What a great guy and a very generous person. And as you can imagine from his posts, a great storyteller in the classic Maritimer style!
Every page I turned over gave me more goosebumps than before. It was thrilling to see someone with more than just the 1-3c Jubilee stamps on their album page (waawaawaa). Maybe some day when I win the lottery and my daughters find an alternative to The Bank of Mom & Dad...
He also has a good eye for eclectic "oddities", which I also found incredibly interesting.
Keep 'em coming Joe!
Yer NS Buddy, Dave
Thanks for the kind words Dave, greatly appreciated. It was great to be able to meet and put a face and a personality to a member!! I wonder what it would be like to go cougar hunting with our friend from Texas Nevada!
I am actually very proud of my Canada and US collections, they have taken a lot of time, and I suppose money (a bit crass) to get to the stage they're at, if you excuse the bad grammar! I wish I had someone to leave them to who could build on them but you can't have everything. Everything gets sold for charity eventually, which is good! I'm always on the look out for oddities to add to the collections. I just located the last of the flying G varieties for Canada's officials and now only need one blunt G and two cracked plate varieties. That doesn't sound very exciting to anyone who's not a philatelist!
As to telling stories, except for the people reading this the one "person" I can talk to is me cat Obi, he's a fantastic listener but a very poor conversationalist! I have only one friend who collects stuff, a lady I know who collects bayonets, a bit odd! But who am I to talk?
Time for a bit of grocery shopping and I always have supper with a couple friends on Sunday evening, two people I went to school with many years ago! Have a great week!!!
Joe, thanks for posting. Fabulous. Glad to be able to see, even just in scans, such rare and impressive material.
rrr....
Joe`s collections are fabulous...I can only dream
I hope it doesn't bother anyone that I include CV's with most stamps. It's something my wife and I started doing with our collections from the very beginning. It's more of a reference point than anything else. I know CV's are quite silly and really don't mean a heck of a lot. It's just a way of knowing that some stamps appear to be rarer than others. It's no indication of what I paid but what I pay is more indicative of how much I would like to have a particular item rather than what it might be worth. I like to see full pages in an album but sometimes that isn't feasible or even possible. I managed to fill page #1 in my US album but page #1 in the Canadian album will always have spaces! It would be silly to even try. The BC collection was only possible because my dealer allowed me to pay it off over a fairly long period of time. I wonder how long it would take to pay for some of the early Canada material - the mind boggles!!
I have just applied to the "Nova Scotia Department of Orphans, Useless Husbands, and Wayward Musicians" to be formally adopted by Joseph ("Harvey") Wolfe. I'm looking forward to being granted visitation rights with my new dad's stamp collection...
Any time Dave!!!
Wow!.....thanks for sharing.
I posted these pictures a year ago and thought I'd re-post them for any new Canada collectors. You don't see these very often! I picked these up from the dealer that I've been buying from (him and his father) for about 50 years. They came from a reputable auction house and have provenance.
