Hello,

I’m thinking of combining my two hobbies of whisky and stamps. I’d like to start collecting stamps that have cancellations of post offices near distilleries if possible. Also any stamps with pictures of distilleries or distilling.

Does anyone have any resources I could start with to understand which post offices (maybe all haha) that I’d want to start with and what the cancellations look like?

I’ve found a listing of offices with their numbers as of 1844 and it seems that perhaps the cancellation is just a rectangle with the number inside it but hoping to get some more direction if possible.

Has anyone else heard/seen a similar topical idea before? Would love to investigate more!

Thanks in advance.

Maybe start with a list of Whiskies, then a gazetteer to find places with any of those names. Pour a glass or two. Perhaps the same lists as a search on various stamp sale websites. Pore a glllasss ore thre, try annd fned a chare, put gase on eny uv ve blury taybllles. Close eyyes.

On a more serious note a search on Colnect for Whisky or distillery will throw up a listing of stamps.

That sounds a fun project!

Here's a list of current and former whisky distilleries from Wikipedia that may be useful:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wh ...

It looks to be up to date with a number of new distilleries that have opened in recent years, including one in Hawick in the Borders that's not far from my home village.

Even closer to home and newer is the distillery in Tweedbank.

All great suggestions! I’ll chase some of those leads down quicker than a nip of whisky Happy

Thanks a lot for your help. Maybe I’ll try and see which whisky takes paper off stamps quicker. Something to add to the tasting notes.
