Hi @Harvey
I did not find in Michel or Scott the mention that this stamp was forged.
If there really are forgeries, you can compare with the data in the catalog: typo print and comb perforation. K 12.5 x 12.
The forgings certainly do not match.
The forgings are generally litho (note if the stamp has breaks in the thin background lines)
Request an image of the back of the stamp where in the typo print you should see the traces of pressure exerted (generally on the edge lines)
All the forgings in my collection are made in line perforation (note that the holes in the corners of the stamp are perfectly aligned with the corresponding vertical and horizontal ones - typical of comb perforation)
Although at the resolution of the image posted by you I cannot be sure that it is a typo print, I think that the stamp is genuine.
I still rely on catalog information from Zagorsky.
He have very good catalog and as I see, no mention on this issue that exist forgeries, so You can be
relaxed, hardly it is forgery.
Scott have it nice price of 125.00 US$ per sample in hinged condition, and mnh is 300.00 US$,
hardly that someone will offer it in mnh condition.
Zagorsky catalog from 2008 year, have it slightly higher 146.00 US$ per mlh, and
470.00 US$ per mnh.
Probability exist, if someone offer it in mnh by low asking price, that it is no gum, or regummed,
or some kind of damage on back that are not visible from this scan.
I personally, never suggest to purchase material, expensive, from any online or web.
For expensive material, I suggest just personal dealer or l good contact that You deal with
for long period and have established some kind of trust.
We were discussing this stamp quite a while ago and someone mentioned it was extensively faked. It is fairly pricey so I rarely bid on this partly because of the comment about fakes. Can anyone give me any detail on this since most of the faking I run into with Russian stamps is concerned with overprints? Here is an image of the stamp I found on line, so I can't show the reverse since they don't.
