I'm confused (normal). Are you looking for an answer, or do you already know it?
Background
482a and 500 are both flat printed printed stamps.
But the transfer roll for type 1a is different as it has 10 right and proper subjects instead of one subject as found on other flat press printed stamps!
There were problems with the type 1a transfer roll, so only a few 500's and 482a's were ever printed.
There more information and very interesting, but will not go into this.
I was hoping to start an interesting discussion on the type 1a and the reasons for it so I could pass on information I have and learn information from other SOR members to further my education on type 1a.
So I hope this is the end to my little informal poll

"There more information and very interesting, but will not go into this"
I'll pass on more information when there is an open discussion about type 1a.
As it stands now I'm the only one sharing my research information.
All that I've received so far from the 3 of you is negative about me and nothing about type 1a.
So lets start over and forget this negative stuff and have open discussion about type 1a

I'll make a comment with no intention to be hurtful. I collect US stamps and am a very serious collector but I am not into it to the extent where I can easily discuss stamps to the level that would be needed for most of these posts. That could be why 1898 gets a bit frustrated at times, there are just not enough of us at his level. Rather than try to get us to participate in a discussion like this maybe he should post comments to try to educate us up to the level where he wants us to be. This is just a suggestion and is not meant to be a criticism.
The results so far are negative and seems like no one is interested in a discussion.
The last part of information I have, maybe some member of SOR knows about it or has better info that what I have: It's there was a major problem with one of the subjects on the 10 subject transfer roll and someone decided just to use a regular type 1 subject. It's possible to find blocks of 500 (unknown if this happened on 482a) with a type 1 image instead of type 1a!
I can't give any more information as this is all I know!!!

Like Harvey it is not my intention to be hurtful and I am 100% sure that you know a lot more about classic American stamps than I do. It is just that the way you want to start a discussion is perhaps not the best. First of all, I often do not understand what you write. This can be due to the fact that English is not my first language, but please realize that most of the time I cannot make heads or tails of your messages. You use words that I never see in connection with stamps or printing, like in your latest message "one of the subjects on the 10 subject transfer roll and someone decided just to use a regular type 1 subject." It makes no sense to me and you wonder why all you get is negative reactions?
Also, why would anyone bother giving his or her opinion when you announce that you will reveal the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth later on?
Anyway, my final word on this. From now on I will get back to doing what I did before, sit on the sideline and ignore the messages. I am sure there are plenty of others who are experts on this subject and would like to share their knowledge here.
Wishing you all the best,
Jan-Simon
Do you know what a transfer roll is?

An ID guide for Type Ia can be found here
https://stampsmarter.org/1847usa/washfra ...
My understanding (from years ago) was that they needed to add extra pressure to make strong impressions and that two entries on plate 10208 were re-entered with a Type I transfer roll. So yes, it is possible to find Type I/Ia pairs.

If I recall correctly one position of type 1 could be found in a plate block I think.
The ID guide you mentioned is very good. The Armstrong book is also an excellent resource, but the ID guide is much cheaper.

Open to wild guesses, how or was the transfer roll different for type 1A from type 1?
Lets hear what SOR members think.
Later on I'll impart the knowledge my research right and proper found out!
