I am a very serious stamp collector and am willing to pay a fair price for a good item. I was looking on E-Bay a little while ago for early Ecuador material, the C41 overprinted early GB material referred to as "Guayaquil". My normal 2015 Scott's doesn't even list the material but my 2010 Scott's Classic Specialized does. I know prices must have gone up somewhat but most of the E-Bay sellers, using comments like "exceedingly rare", seem to be charging prices up to 10 times what my 2010 book is quoting. Either people are totally out of it or the prices have gone way up for this material. My 2010 Scott's calls them A1 to A39 under Ecuador, the prices from from a low of $50 (A3) to a high of $375 (A27) except for a couple high denominations (2sh and 5sh) which are more expensive. Could someone with more up to date prices please check for me to see if the prices have gone way up lately? So far I only have A13 and only paid about $30 for it, maybe I just got lucky!!

re: Can anyone give a more current price?

They are not listed in my 2023 Scott standard vol 2B, and my 2012 Scott Classic seems to be the same prices you mentioned (A3 & A27 the same).

You could try checking ebay sold listings to see what people are actually paying for them.

I should have thought of that. There were three sold, all much lower than the ridiculous prices being asked now. There was one on offer now that had a very reasonable starting bid that I did bid on but I doubt if I'll win the item. But, you never know!!!

re: Can anyone give a more current price?

Just tried John, no luck yet. I tried Ecuador Guayaquil and a few other things. I might end up looking through older British stamps for the C41 postmark, that might be a chore, I'll give it a go later! They really are hard to find since Guayaquil is a place name and shows up that way. You can't search C41 since you usually just get the air mail stamp. With all the stuff on E-Bay I only found a few there as well!

That's the one I'm on right now, I doubt if I'll get it though!!!
As A18, it lists in my 2010 Classic Scott's for $85. I bet it goes for much more than that. I'd love to get it to go with my A13 but I really haven't figured out what my maximum bid will be. If any of you want to bid against me please feel free, I promise not to be upset. There are actually 4 Ecuador collectors in SoR counting me.

You threw me with "overprinted C41". It's not an overprint it's a postmark. Now I know where I'm looking! For reference, these CV's are from the SG Commonwealth 2020

Sorry, again, my bad!!
I meant to say postmark, sometimes I get the two things mixed up!!
39 items in Scott's and 31 in Stanley Gibbons, it always amazes me how different people can interpret the same "set" of stamps in different ways. I also sort of wonder if other British postmarks signify other countries as well. It's a bit odd, to me anyway, that Ecuador would use British stamps. But then I know very little about the history of South and Central American countries, maybe Ecuador had a close connection to GB. At least the Stanley Gibbons gives a bit of an explanation, Scott's does not. I guess a little research is in order. After all, if I have enough interest in the area to collect its stamps I really should know a bit of its history. Most of the countries I collect are in the same boat, I know very little about the history.

I live in Guayaquil and am familiar with this cancellation. It was only in use for a short time, about 15 years and is highly sought-after by collectors here. The local stamp club has a monthly auction, often with various examples to bid on.Minimum bids usually start at $100 and there are usually plenty of bidders.

re: Can anyone give a more current price?

Robert Thanks for the information! I would be happy to pick up a couple more since they seem to fit in with my Ecuador collection very nicely. I'm bidding on one now but will probably be over bid. I think the price is rising on these very interesting items and I'd like to pick up a couple before they get out of reach!
