Surely he could see from the picture what the cancellation looked like! Some people are very strange. When Cathy and I sold on line about 20 years ago things were much more straight forward. I don't think I would have the patience to put up with the garbage that sellers have to put up with now!! Good luck to you John, you're a much better man that I!! I'm afraid of what I might say to this person!!
I was a bit pissed at first Joe, but then figured I wouldn't worry. He did buy another stamp BTW, which he kept. I'd almost like to see his collection.
"Some might have offered it as Unused NG."
Smaugee...In general, I agree. However, there are plenty of sellers on Ebay who would actually believe it's not cancelled, or just not take the time to closely inspect. Not intentionally, but just not very knowledgable.
it IS cancelled; which is clear
I am not sure what he might have meant by "obliterated." Destroyed? Indecipherable? 65X more ink?
by the way, it is beautifully centered
I would've cancelled it and mailed it back to him!
Surely he saw the stamp image and the cancel being light as described. My guess, being generous, is he had second thoughts and wanted something that he was certain was canceled or boldly canceled. Makes one wonder about the cancels on all his other stamps and whether he collects only canceled stamps. Certainly it’s odd and you are to be commended for refunding. Thumbs up!
Sold a Canada Jubilee #60 (50 cent) to a chap in Canada. It had no gum, and a very hard to determine cancel. Some might have offered it as Unused NG. But I described as Used VL Cancel. Stamp IMO is very fine, with great centering. His reason for returning was that it was "not obliterated".He said he didn't notice this in the photo and description. First time a return for something much nicer than the customer thought he was purchasing. Too bad for me as he bought it for $50. Oh well...refund will be on its way.
