Here's a link to the article cited above. This past winter the PO in my down shut down a total of 4 or 5 days over a few weeks due to impassible roads after major snowstorms. I don't remember them closing this frequently in previous years.
This seems quite logical to me....what am I missing?
This is perfectly acceptable. USPS should not endanger their employees for the sake of delivering circulars from Walmart to people whose lives are in disarray.
I've been seeing an increasing number of articles on the internet in this vein that seem to imply the USPS is about to shut down its services altogether in a given state - only to find the article mentions that one or a handful of post offices is temporarily closed for perfectly understandable reasons. It's basically clickbait.
I can certainly understand what has happened. However, with me being in southeast FL, and my mail possibly still being picked up, is it going to magically stop at the border of wherever they don't want service? Yes, North FL just went through a big storm, but to say the whole state is stopped? Sends a shiver down my spine. And what happened in Ohio?
Here is a list of the post offices that were closed in Florida, most of which have resumed operation. The Ohio closures were due to a power outage I believe.
Thanks for that info about Ohio. Sometimes I do need to crawl out of my rock query!
USPS Is Suspending Services in Florida, Ohio, and West Virginia, Effective Immediately
If you've seen postal carriers outside delivering mail in the extreme summer heat, you might assume that they can do their jobs in any conditions. But when the weather gets too dangerous, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will actually pull workers from their routes and suspend operations. In fact, this past winter we saw the USPS temporarily close hundreds of post offices across the country amid snowstorms and blizzards. Now, summer storms are pushing the agency to pull back in more places across the country. Read on to discover where the USPS is currently suspending services.
