Are these new issues soakable, or only chemical removal?
Roy
Sadly, probably only the chemical remove. I just leave them on paper because of my allergies to chemicals.
It looks like the printing process is like the bio-luminescent life sheet. The usual solvents dissolve the image as well. I found a product called Un-Do that that works great for these. It is a combination of less harsh solvents but the unique thing about it is that you apply it to the back of the paper that the stamp is affixed to. It goes through the paper dissolving enough of the adhesive to allow the stamp to release. Once the stamp is removed, I turn it over on a soft piece of cardboard. Using a Q-tip and xylene(xylol) the remaining adhesive is dissolved and wiped away with a paper towel.
Just a comment. This seems like a fair bit of work, wouldn't it be just as easy to leave it on paper?
It would be easier but I prefer them off paper. It is only a few issues that have to be done this way. The rest come right off after a couple of minutes in xylene.
They do look very good when you get done, Joe. You do a nice job.
When the stamp is on cardboard or other yucky paper, or too close to other stamps to be able to scissor between them, then the chemical method might be the only way.
Thanks, Theresa. When I can get kiloware, I usually accumulate 2-4 ounces per month of duplicates. I put them in the auction at the stamp club meeting with a 2.00 per ounce reserve and they always sell for more. That covers the cost of the solvents so pretty much it’s just my time. Usually a couple of hours early on a Saturday with plenty of coffee.
They look great. I bought a sheet today.
Oh now these are nice - colorful and striking visually while also highly educational. Kudos to the Stamp Selection committee - advisory board? - and the United States Postal Service.
I can’t wait to find all of these used - check my trade offer if you buy a sheet for postage.
