Our illustrious President David and his wife will be there, but only for the first couple days I'm told.
I and my wife will be there all 4 days.
It would be good to say hello to you again, Vince - what time will you be getting your pin on Saturday?
I'd like to attend that, if I can!
Vince and Randy..have a great time...wish i was situated a little closer to Cleveland. We will never forget the Humongus show when it was in D.C. i don't think i ever saw anything so huge in my life.
Phil,
This will be my third opportunity to go to a GASS venue....and yes they are huge.
We had a show here in Grand Rapids, MI in 2015, then I went to one in Chicago right after Covid.
Also just found out yesterday that it will be returning to the Chicago area in 2025; might be going to that one, too!
Randy, we used to really enjoy the APS shows they had in Hartford every 6 years..Covid clobbered the last one. Hope to attend another one !
I will be at the show on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and will fly into Cleveland on Wednesday. I will be at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade although I am not exactly sure where that actually is. I think it is close to the show venue and will work out how to get to the show from it, hopefully it is walkable. I installed the Uber app on my phone in case there is no airport shuttle to the hotel. It is my first trip to Cleveland so it should be interesting. Huntsville, AL has a very small airport so I will bounce through Charlotte, NC on my way there.
Just be careful with Cleveland..every time i passed through they called in a snow blizzard !
Jerrell,
Just sent you a PM
Glad you can make it to the show!
Just an FYI to all,
Cleveland is my favorite big city to visit - been there over a dozen times.
SO much to see and do there....and eat!
I am a lifetime member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; the zoo is great (they have cheetahs - my favorite animal!); the floating ship museum; the Great Lakes Science Center/Museum; all the Blues music downtown.....and of course my 2nd favorite team - the Cleveland Indians (no, I did not say 'guardians')
...And so much more!!
Ok....I'm done.
If you have any questions/comments please address them to "1898", I do not read all the posting, mostly just scan read them!
When I lived in Michigan, I'd visit Cleveland a couple times.
Used to fish for the small mouth Bass in the Au Sable river, great fun, there was a golf course near where I lived, the owner let me fish there, fantastic fishing. The second best fish (secret spot), best fishing was a lake in Spain.

YOU won.

No, I'll pass it on to someone better qualifier musicman, enjoy it!

As a Cleveland expat, I am asking all of us to give the city one of the few opportunities offered to it to shine.
Let's let all the other more personal remarks take a back seat to Cleveland.
Talk about Rocky Colavito or Bingo Smith or George Szell or Dennis Kucinich or get back to stamps.
David
I can talk about Colavito in Detroit, too!
We traded our batting champ - Harvey Kuenn - for Rocky, the homerun champ in 1960.
He was only with us 4 years, but Harvey got traded away from Cleveland after just one year!
Thanks, Cleveland!
Sorry - the baseball kid came out in me......back to stamps!!
it was a time of bad baseball in Cleveland (most times are) and spectacularly bad trades.
To all of you able to attend GASS: First let me say I'm so jelly! One of these days, I'll be able to attend.
Second, Hip Stamp will have a table there so if you could, stop by and see if Anna Taylor is around and say hi to her. Another table to stop by would be the Cachets and see if Dave Bennett from Bennettoons is around and say hi. And congratulate Lloyd de Vries on his award.
And please let us all know about the show and how great it was. So excited you are able to attend.
Made it to Cleveland and my hotel using the train from the airport and looking forward to the show tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday.
It was mentioned that Scott English, Exec Director, agreed to a 3 year extension (transition period). There were rumors earlier this year about him resigning.
Spent the entire day without a break at the show and having a great time. Saw Dick Keiser, stamp dealer from the Seattle area, at the show although he does not have a table there. Also, met a Canadian collector at the show and we discussed stamp storefronts in Canada. He said he knows Chris Green and David Giles, an active Stamporama presence well and considers their shop to be a major factor in his collecting life.
Took a few pictures at the show and will attempt to upload them.
I made a wide variety of purchases for my International album from 1840-1940 for A-E countries and definitely enough to reach 50% complete for the Part 1A1-1B2 pages with mint stamps. I, also, bought a Mexico collection to feed my existing Mexico collection for 1944-1970 and may be able to extend it to 1980. Last two items purchased were for my USA Lighthouse albums that I found under the stairs just before we moved from Seattle to Alabama at the end of last year.
I had a chance to talk with a variety of stamp dealers including George Holschauer from Colonial Stamp Company who has an incredible stock for the British Commonwealth through 1935.
Sounds like you are having too much fun.
All I can say is ... I'm so Jealous!!!!
Back to baseball. The Cleveland Indians were the first Major Leasue team for Roger Maris. Ha came up through their Minor League system. Would have loved to go to GASS.
The show is great! Large crowds. Well run by the APS staff and volunteers from the Cleveland area philatelic members. Lots of purchases, I will need to scan and post when we return to Bellefonte. I still have a few more dealers I want to visit today and then spend time with the exhibits. I haven’t attended any of the meetings, there are a few I want to go to but we leave early tomorrow. I missed David Teisler yesterday but will hook up with Randy and his wife today, we will get pictures.
I have been running into a lot of philatelic friends here. The dealers seem happy.
There are many good restaurants near the convention center and we have had some good meals.
The hotel accomadations are another matter, very disappointing is all I'll say, after all this is a family site.
Vince
Well, its 8:30 AM Friday - the morning of the second day of GASS!
As Vince and Jerrel said above, its been a good show so far! Here are a few pics;
Those are the view of the show floor from the second floor side balcony.
As Vince mentioned, my wife and I met up with Stamporama president David Tiesler and Tina Thursday morning;
A very kind and gracious couple - we were happy to get the opportunity to meet in person.
Today, the plan is to meet up with Jerrel when we hit the show floor.
Always fun to meet fellow SOR members in person!
After that we will track Vince down, whom we met before at the Grand Rapids, MI GASS show some years back.
Vince and I and our wives will be dining together later today...will be good to see him again!
I will post an update later tonight or in the morning!
Until then - HAPPY STAMPIN'!!!
You all look so happy. Hope you are finding lots of Gems there.
Here are a few more pictures from the show.
Vince, Randy, and I had dinner at a very nice taco restaurant with Randy’s wife and Vince’s wife joined us just as we were finishing up. Fun conversation as we shared about our lives (and, yes, about stamps as well ).
Friday;
Met up with Jerrel/jbaxter and had a fine chat;
As Jerrel mentioned above, after the show Jerrel, Vince and I met at a taco place down the street for dinner and conversation. My wife was with us and Vince's wife joined later. Unfortunately, Jerrel's wife didn't make the trip with him from Alabama.
Here's a few more pics from the 3rd floor entrance overlooking the entire show floor from that vantage point;
We are attending earlier today (Sat.) - The APS has a meeting at 9AM and Vince is going to be presented with his 25-year APS pin!
Hope to get some pics of that as well to post later!
Will post more tonight or tomorrow!
HAPPY STAMPIN'!!!
Thank you all for posting pictures of the Show.
Waiting to enter the show on Saturday. VINMAN is getting his 25 year pin for the APS this morning.
Glad you guys are having a good time...its always great to meet up with fellow members.
Lot of good images.
Wish I was there!
This is a really good choice for location - centered between the east Coast and the Midwest, within driving distance for a huge number of collectors. I Hope show organizers take a look at the attendance when picking future sites.
Saturday's show was not quite as busy as Thursday & Friday were, but nonetheless it was still quite a good turnout.
Vinman was awarded his 25-Year pin at the early 9AM APS meeting and we were in attendance to witness it. He was also commended for his (continuing)volunteer work at the APS!
Here he is receiving his pin from APS President Cheryl Ganz;
And here is a look at the future of our hobby - the young philatelists award winners;
All in all, it was an interesting meeting....my first time at an open APS meeting.
Sorry - those are a little large!
The man at the podium is Executive Director Scott English, who has been involved with a few conversations here on our Discussion Boards.
He announced at the meeting that he agreed to stay on for 3 more years at Cheryl Ganz's request!
All in all, a fine day!
We have opted to bypass the show today as we have to drive 5 hours back home and my wife has to work tomorrow.
I will have more details about the show later in the week.
I hope Vinman and JBaxter will post more from the show as well.
In response to Theresa's comment above regarding location;
the 2025 show will be in Chicago - another great central location!
And I won't have to drive - we can take the train from Grand Rapids all the way into Chicago!
HAPPY STAMPIN'!!!
Congrats to Vinman!!!! What an accomplishment. Thank you for posting the pictures.
2025 in Chicago??? Lots of time to plan.
Thanks for all the pics!
I went to college in Cleveland area (John Carroll Univ) in the late 60's. At that time, Cleveland was referred to as "the mistake on the lake." Even by locals. But we enjoyed it. Went to a lot of INDIANS games, and Browns too. Used to head up to Lake Erie College in Gainesville in search of loose women (usually a miserable failure) and would drive all the way to downtown Cleveland for a plate eggs, bacon, and homefries in the early hours of the AM.
In my adult work life I was a CPA in Toledo and was in Cleveland often on business. Some awful good eating in Cleveland....one of my favorite was Johnnies on the west side. Amazing Italian. Supposedly frequented by the Mafia, but who knows.
Sorry folks....the memories just got stirred up. Couldn't make the show.....a bout of Covid. Mild, but it kept me secluded for awhile.
BTW....were most of the attendees us gray-haired types, or did you see some younger enthusiasts?
The majority of attendees were in the "gray-haired" category but there were quite a mix of others at the show as well. I was surprised by how many women were present and actively looking for stamps. There was quite a bit of diversity in terms of country backgrounds evident at the show as well.
The exhibits for the competition were incredible.
Who will be attending The Great American Stamp Show in Cleveland this year? I'll be in Cleveland Tuesday through Saturday. I'll receive my 25 year pin from The APS Satuday morning.
Vince
