One of only two very rare first day of issue covers (the other with a single stamp). This cover has a ½d orange kangaroo and 1941 2d mauve KGVI tied cover with a CDS (circular-date-stamp) dated 28 JANUARY 1942, this being the first day of issue for the ½d kangaroo with a 15 x 14 perforation (14.75 x 14) and C of A watermark.
The ACSC (2019) catalogues this FDC at $5,000 (catalogue entry 179y). The catalogue also states “Two first day covers are known dated 28 January 1942, cancelled at Killara (N.S.W.) and G.P.O. Sydney. The cover displayed had been cancelled at Killara.
