Please scan the back!

I checked in my Canada Unitrade and above stamps from this time period it says "National Bank Note Co., New York". This changes later to "British American Bank Note Co., Montreal" so it seems OK for your #40 to be US in origin. I think!!
Edit: There is no need to show the back. It would be blank as are both of my copies - I have the regular rouletted copy and one that someone has perforated 10 for some reason!
@Harvey
Alway, repeat always scan the back of stamps when trying to make the correct identification!
1898
Sometimes the back can show interesting things but all this was about was the printer's name which was on the front. Also there was absolutely no doubt about the identification of the stamp - it had to be #40.
Thanks Folks! Always something interesting.
I saw no reason to post back of stamp pic.......it would have added nothing to the issue at question.
Harvey...do yours show the printer name?
No neither of mine does. You'd need larger margins to show that. Your's is a top row with a large top margin so obviously that's where the printer's ID is/ It might be on the bottom as well. That's a great copy of that stamp!!
@bigcreekdad
The reason to show the back is for a number of reasons, the subject of your original posting "Thoughts of this early Newfie stamp".
My thoughts includes showing the back, as I think this is an egraved flat press printed stamp that appears over inked and sometimes there is an offsett.
Also suggest you apply the water mark process to see if anything appears.
I have a question what is "Newfie" I can't find it anywhere?
1898
Newfie - short for Newfoundland?
@angore
Thank you!
1898
1898
I'll repeat what I said earlier. I was only wondering about the printer's ID at the top of the stamp.
@bigcreekdad
Thought you'd like to see what the words are on you stamp see the attached scan, by the way with a little detective work you could figure out what the words were, especially if you would show the reverse side! Using the water mark process might have helped too!

'' ...I have a question what is "Newfie" I can't find it anywhere?....''
The answer is on the front of the stamp.
1898....please give this a break
@cdj1122
You are correct!
But the subject line "Newfie" is used, Stamp-O-Rama is a United States based, and Newfie would not be correct.
People, people please consider what words you use in the subject line, be clear!
1898
@bigcreekdad
Stamp-O-Rama is for people who love stamps.
I love stamps and like to talk about stamps and do research on stamps.
I find it interesting your stamp the words are on the top and the example I gave the words are on the right side, why is this? I'm researching this question now, have not found anything useful yet.
No one is forcing you or anybody else to read any of my posting.

You may not be aware of this simple trick. It works, at least, with the Chrome browser, on the Windows platform. I'll defer to others to report if it works for other browsers and other platforms.
If you double-click on the word Newfie anywhere in this thread, it should be highlighted. (In my case, it transforms to a blue background with white letters.) That means the word is selected. You can then right-click on that highlighted word. This provides some context-specific options.
One of those options is 'Search Google for "Newfie". If you then highlight that option and left-click, Chrome will open a tab using "Newfie" as the search term.
The first item Chrome returns for me is from Wikipedia, and it says:
""Newfie is a colloquial term used by Canadians and others for someone who is from Newfoundland. Some Newfoundlanders consider "Newfie" as a slur first used ...""
Dave, I'm running Firefox with DuckDuckGo and it gives me the option to search the web, just like you say.

Was your posting about me? If I'm wrong sorry.
I've been using computers since 1977.
Now my computer time is spent with researching cancels about 90% of computer time everyday.
The other 10% would be searching revenue cancels on ebay, and Stamp-O-Rama, and emailing my kids.
So please tell me what other areas on the computer I need to learn relating to stamps and other areas?
Spoken with sadness, not malice!

This stamp appears to have the name of the printer at the top. Unfortunately, you can only see the lower portion. The last part appears to read ..."& CO. New York". I looked up printing companies of early Newfie stamps and they were all in Canada. Any Thoughts? Kinda interesting if nothing else.
