As a side bar to this when I was in school we studied as much US history as we did Canadian. We had to know all the US states and capitals as well. It never seemed to be very useful (no offence meant) but the older I get the more I realize that anything you know is good! Especially compared to what kids are learning now! Besides it's really cool to know that if someone screams out "North Dakota" the first thing that pops in my head is "Bismark"!! Also how many kids now-a-days know the capital of NY State is Albany and not NYC? What kind of useless stuff do you all remember from school? I can still remember the verses of The Lady Of Shalott I had to memorize in grade IV, without thinking about onions!! And I still know how to use log tables, and why, and can still use a slide rule! I guess I'm a NERD at heart. I really hope there's nothing political in here, this was fun to write!!
I did a re-count and all 50 stamps did issue "Duck Stamps" so I think I'll make this a fun collection - just one per state. There was also a section on "Indian " reservations, I guess as of 2016 Scott's had not become politically correct yet. Since I am 62.5 % (father 100%, mother 25% - add and divide by 2) native myself I might go for as many of the Tribal (their word) stamps as I can find. Has anyone tried this sort of collection? Most of the states and tribes have some affordable stamps but I never seem to see them on SOR, at least not that I can remember.
I'm from Western New York (Buffalo/Rochester area) - closer to Toronto than NYC - so the kids here at least know the capital is Albany. One of my middle school teachers was Canadian so he made sure Canadian geography and history was taught to all students at the school, so I had that advantage.
I do think trying to collect a revenue from every US state is a cool idea. I would not limit to the fifty states - Puerto Rico and NYC issued their own stamps - so it would be kind of neat to collect a revenue stamp from every US issuing entity, similar to how others have tried a postage stamp for every worldwide issuing entity. Maybe a project for when I can retire
I bet somewhere I have a revenue stamp from every Canadian province.

"I bet somewhere I have a revenue stamp from every Canadian province."
Yes, every state has issued revenue stamps of one sort or another.
In fact, most states have issued revenues in the hundreds if not thousands of issues for everything from alcohol to horseshoe sales.
Go online and look up the SRS - State Revenue Society.
I have been a member for almost 10 years, and there is some great info there.
I have many state revenues from most states and yes, at least one from every state.
this was a very informative thread. I now know that North American indigenous people prefer Tribal as an adjective (assume that's true for all Native people in NA?).
I live 60 miles from Albany, our state capital, and 10 from Kingston, what had been the first state capital. Albany was chosen for its remoteness, with the idea that fewer City folks would be tempted to "buy" remote politicians.
and, I agree, lots of information comes in handy some time, but i wish more context were taught rather than isolated facts

After the burning of Kingston in October 1777, Poughkeepsie served as the state capitol until the conclusion of hostilities. Through June and July 1788, the Dutchess County Courthouse at Poughkeepsie provided the scene for New York's Ratification Debates on the United States Constitution. So, Poughkeepsie was more important than Kingston.
Since this discussion grew from states to Canadian provinces as well, I would clarify that all Canadian provinces/territories have issued duck/wildlife/conservation stamps, and in addition a few years of Atlantic Wildlife Celebration, a Winnipeg Game and Fish Association, Cape Breton Game, Pitt Waterfowl Management Association, and Prairie Provinces Conservation issues. Several provinces also have issued fishing revenues as well. Joe therefore could target a wildlife/conservation/duck issue from each province and perhaps these other entities for a fun collection of about 18 stamps with some diligent searching but not a huge cost (again, the recent suggestion fits to look until you find one in the price range you desire--prices can vary significantly on the online sales platforms). I would add that many of these stamps are equally lovely to the Canadian federal Wildlife Habitat (duck) stamps.
Thanks for the information Tom!! It might take a while but eventually I'll find the Canada Duck Stamps as well! So 50 states, all the provinces and territories and a few Tribal ones as well. Should be an interesting collection! Thanks again!!
I could probably answer this online but I'm curious if anyone has ever tried collecting a revenue stamp from each state. I've been thinking it might make an interesting collection and am wondering if it would even be possible. I collect several types of US revenue material and don't really want to start on the state stuff, especially if it's not possible. It might look interesting if 50 stamps were mounted on a map of the US. I just hauled out my Scott Specialized and ended up with 49 Duck Stamps but I probably just missed a state. Since I have the first 75 US Duck stamps complete going for one per state as a side collection might be fun! Has anyone done something like this?
