"Do you have to deliver it to a certain central location"
Global Shipping Program, name soon to be changed, simplifies the process for international shipping. eBay deals with the logistics and customs and lost or damaged item claims are resolved in your favor. You ship to a domestic shipping center which is a piece of cake, although there are country limits, weight and cost, and banned countries, so it’s something to look into. Rather than characterizing this as somehow less than above board, this is a service that simplifies things for the seller. Services are not free, nor should they be, but the costs are still insertion fees and final sales fees. But if you sell inexpensive items it’s probably not worth it. You can always opt out. Search for “eBay global shipping program” in Google and the EBay page is right at the top.
I hate to ask, but what is it you don't understand ????
I didn't understand how E-Bay got your item so they could take it over using their Global Shipping. That has been been explained and now I realize that you have to send your items to local centers. I'm still not sure how these centers are distributed to allow rural people to have access. Surely it is just as much of a pain shipping to these centers as it would be shipping to the customer. It really only makes sense if you can send them multiple items or if the center were close enough to make actual delivery possible!
I received an item last week from a dealer in New Jersey who used the Global Shipping Program. As Ebay has no way of tracking anything, they showed in the tracking that it was Out for Delivery two nights in a row in another city.
I would hazard to guess, Global Shipping Program option, I believe to be renamed International Shipping in July, is not the option to use for domestic sales. Otherwise you could be shipping to a buyer next door through a fulfillment center hundreds of miles away. It only makes sense for international shipping as the benefits only relate to international shipping. It does seem confusing.
It's a ridiculous method to get stamps to customers. The cost to post to Australia can be between $20-$30 for a 10c sale. I don't buy from anyone daft enough to use this "service". Clearly their focus is on simplifying to their processes to the detriment of their customers.

That's E-BAY.
The shock wore off many moons ago.
Another reason to buy and sell on Stamporama.

I rarely sell on Ebay any more. When I was, and when they started the Global Shipping, if you indicated that you shipped internationally, the Global Shipping option was defaulted to yes. You had to go into the listing and unmark it. I don't know if they changed that.
You can opt out completely and you can remove individual listings from the program. If selling inexpensive terms that would not benefit from international logistics or conflict resolution, e.g., because the item isn’t worth much, then don’t use the program. If buying inexpensive items then maybe don’t bid if shipping costs are expensive or if seller is international.
"If buying inexpensive items then maybe don’t bid if shipping costs are expensiv"
"I'm really not sure how these sellers expect to sell those items."
Good points Roy! I keep forgetting about the international aspect of all of this. I guess it saves them the hassle of stating that they will only sell in their own country!
My wife and I sold on E-Bay not too long after it started and things were much simpler then!! People now talk about their "Global Shipping" as if E-Bay handles the shipping for the seller. What I don't understand is... How in heck do they get your item? Do you have to deliver it to a certain central location because shipping it to them makes no sense what-so-ever. I must be very dense but I can't figure this out at all!!
