The 5/- and 10/- Robes were issued in April 1938, a full 11 months after the coronation. The £1 was issued in November 1938. Even though they look right, there's no way they can be considered as a Coronation set.
Actually, they are an omnibus set celebrating the coronation.
I don't know why you say that. The 1d green Queen Elizabeth and 2d scarlet King George were issued prior to the Coronation and no further stamps in the series were issued until August 1937.
No Australian stamps feature in the KGVI Coronation omnibus set at all, and calling this issue coronation stamps is decidedly inaccurate.
I should correct the information, the 1948 issue of the coronation stamps were re-issued as an omnibus set which was in line with the silver wedding anniversary of KGVI and QE. The choice of stamp design though was in contrast to other Commonwealth countries adoption of a particular design.
I cannot explain why a set of coronation stamps can be interpreted as a silver wedding anniversary set of KGVI and QE but it was.
Hmm. Let's see what coronation stamps emerge. I thought it was overall a pretty good bash, with only a couple of reservations. First, it did go on a bit, but the military marching procession was impressive. But ... the gold coach for their return to the palace - very Disney Cinderella, and a bit ridiculous. And the crowns did look a bit silly on both of them, I thought. On the positive side - Charles and Camilla looked happy and regal, the music was excellent and Penny Mordaunt (the lady in blue) with the sword was a real winner!
Will I now be arrested for treason?
Hi Strider
I cannot see where that information has anything to do with coronation stamps.
I cannot believe the Australia post would miss a chance for revenue by not selling stamps featuring KCIII.i
Hi angore
I agree.
I'm quite sure there will be a fine KCIII issued when the agency works out all the details. and we, those who are left and care will purchase copies in all it's variants, errors essays and miss-prints, enough to fill a neat page or two. there may be more than one bureaucrat involved, paper, gum, design, pose, ink, maybe perforations, then examples / proofs off to be sure he and his advisors approve of it all.
heaven forfend someone discovers a chest medal inverted or leg garters miss-angled and the game might have to start all over.
cheers
Will Australia Post release a coronation stamp(s) of King Charles III as was the case with the coronations of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II?
