I can't really make out what exactly your dilemma is. There are a lot of official overprints from Ecuador, but other than trying to separate the Seebeck reprints from the originals they are pretty straightforward if you have an illustrated catalog. The only watermarking needed is for one set of Seebecks. Is it distinguishing between the overprints? Compared to Argentina (or Mexico) officials they are pretty easy IMHO.
I guess the main problem is the fact I don't like them. I think I'll just collect the country without all the boring officials. It's really hard to organize stamps you just don't like. It's not that I'm too lazy to do it! I have a couple hundred of the trident overprints for the early Ukraine and as soon as I get a bit more motivation I am perfectly willing to give them a shot. Because I like the stamps! I can't explain why one group appeals to me and the other doesn't. It's just the way it is!
I was just taking a look at my Ecuador collection(?) and think I realize the problem. I am trying to put the stamps in the Scott International, or what people affectionately call "Big Blue". There are a large number of overprints that the album just leaves out and they also do a very poor job on BOB, of which I have many! I don't design pages like some of you do and I really don't like using stock books for serious country collections. So I need to pick up either a good set of pages or an album before I can make a serious attempt at organizing what I have. I bought a few large lots over the years and need a good place to put them since Scott's album does such a crappy job. If I can get a serious album I might even keep, and organize, the large number of BOB stamps I have! Time to start searching!!!
I can understand your frustration with the Scott Big Blues. I was considering using them when I restarted the hobby a couple of years ago but the omission of common stamps was too frustrating. I'm not an album person and I use stockbooks (as I enjoy having control of how they are arranged). For what its worth I just noticed what appears to be a Scott Specialized Ecuador album with stamps up for bid on eBay, there is no indication of how complete it is.
I just checked out the album and it's contents. My main problem is that I only want to go to 1955 and if there were no stamps in the album I'd just stop there and take the rest of the pages out and ignore them. I know how my brain works and with the album partially filled I would feel obliged to fill the rest of the spaces up to where the book ends. My other problem is that for about the last month I can do BIN on E-Bay but cannot bid - I still have no idea why. One of the wonderful people on SOR just sent me a whole bunch of wonderful pages that I'll have a friend print off for me if I'm allowed to do so. It's perfect because there are no stamps and I can just have the pages printed that I want!
The people on this site are just so damn helpful!
Thanks for that!!
I believe children have access to this site?
Perhaps damn should not be used, instead use darn would be better?
Sorry, I really have to watch my language, gosh darn it all to heck sometimes I just get too carried away by the awesomeness of this site!!!
Edit: Not trying to be a smart "bum", but, trust me as a teacher of 34 years, kids now-a-days are not offended by the "d word". But maybe the "kids of Texas" are more sensitive. But I will be more careful in the future, my bad!!
Edit#2: I have never considered "damn" to be a real swear word since a person can be damned or end up in damnation! Maybe some of us should check this link. https://ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedCont ...
How about it, does anyone care to voice an opinion? I think probably it's one of those marginal words that can go either way, but again that's just my opinion! There are much more important things in this world of ours to get upset about!
Edit #3 Just changed name of post - I just can't stand the guilt any longer!!!

" I have never considered "damn" to be a real swear word since a person can be damned or end up in damnation!"
I just got a group of really nice airmails from a seller here and when I was putting them in they were not only overprinted with their regular overprints but were also overprinted "OFICIAL". I spent at least a half an hour going through the official stamps trying to find them and then noticed from the album description that the airmail series were supposed to be overprinted official stamps anyway. If I'd only read the album description first I could have saved myself all the extra effort. I don't think I have ever seen a country, or at least not one I collect, with as many overprints as Ecuador has. Except possibly for the early Ireland material!

I have a question about the very early Ecuador stamps. #1 was released in 1865 but Scott's also has a section on "STAMPS OF GREAT BRITAIN USED IN ECUADOR". There are 39 stamps A1 to A39 and all it says is "Stamps of Great Britain cancelled Type A "C41"". It shows no pictures and gives no explanation of what this means and I can't find anything on line. They are not super expensive so I would like to have a couple examples. Can anyone help me by telling me, or showing me, what I should look for? Are they just British stamps cancelled C41? If so what does Type A signify? The denominations run from 1/2p to 5sh. Any help would be appreciated!
Harvey, yes they were the Queen Victoria stamps of 1865-80, and cancelled with a C41 postmark. Type A refers to the design of the franking obliterator.
Edit to add that the type A is an horizontal oval as opposed to vertical.
Image from Ebay,
Looked a few up in Ebay using "stamp Great Britain C41". Most seem very expensive!! One was 40 GBP and I made an offer of 36! I'll see what happens but at the usual prices that are being asked I'll probably only try for a couple!!
I live in Ecuador and stamps with the C41 cancellation are very much sought after by collectors here.I have yet to win one on Ebay as most examples I see are usually well over £50 or more.
If you think a reply to your post has been taken out of context (either intentional or not), I would suggest using the opportunity to just expand to expand your comments for clarification.

Indian states sounds like a rabbit hole to me. I do not collect any officials unless obtained indirectly.
As the title says the only thing putting me off Ecuador is the huge number of officials. I've been buying lots of Ecuador for quite a while now and have a pretty major collection. The only thing is that I am an "album person" and my album area for Ecuador includes masses of the officials. I actually have a lot of them but have put off trying to ID them. Does anyone else find them self in the same dilemma? I actually have had a place on my want lists that says ECUADOR - to be added soon, and that's been there for several months now. It's about time to "put up, or shut up" I guess!!
