these are called MUTE CANCELS and are used on registered letters; you'll also find more cancels on the reverse, including those from the originating PO, although none of those will be mute; all will be dated with location.
They are sometimes used on other classes, especially third class, where the PO isn't required to meet certain time lines.
hope that helps
Thank you for these information,
Jacques
AMSD cover right up your alley, right David?
yup
all the better because it's not only AMSD it's also double rate and registered
nice cover
Oh I feel very uninformed asking this, but I know diddlysquat about USA covers and markings and you don’t learn if you don’t ask, right?
Soooo - What does AMSD mean?
Hi friends,
wath is the meening of "A M S D"
Jacques
I am guessing Air Mail Special Delivery.
But I am not much of a cover collector.
AMSD is David's username.
And Charlie is correct, it is an unofficial acronym for Air Mail Special Delivery. There is such a service and it is represented by two stamps from the thirties: CE1, CE2.
It is one of the areas I like to collect
Somebody can tel me the used of this CANCELLATION ???
