I look up everything on Colnect by face value. It beats going a catalog that is well illustrated. For modern, they often only have one image when the set may have many.
it happens to be a great site. I use the face value and theme to identify stamps
I still like to know how they are able to use someone's catalogue #.. i.e. sn #
Agree completely! Face value is usually my first search criteria, too.
I can't even get Colnect to work, it loads the main screen and then the little arrow at the top of the site just sits there and spins. It's been happening to me all week. It's probably that little black cloud perpetually sitting over my house, even at night! Any hints, besides try moving?

Bob,
sn# stand for stamp number and it is actually scott catalog numbers but they are not authorized to used the Scott numbering system, like they say...
there's more than one way to skin a cat.
Mike - I would suggest you clear your history and cache and then instead of using a bookmark to load the site, try typing in the URL for Colnect which is: https://colnect.com/en/stamps
I just loaded the main page and I do not see a little black arrow at the top of the site.
Is this what you are seeing on the main page?
I checked yesterday and there was / still is an ! (exclamation symbol) that when clicked list mobile offerings. I was logged in but patches was not. That may be a difference.
Did you try clicking on it. It's about using a camera.
I get the exclamation mark also, but I just ignore it. I can still use Colnect.
Another thing that I use sometimes when I am trying to narrow down search results is to click on Emissions. Then I can choose Air Post, Commemorative, Definitive, Semi-postal, Official or whatever is the appropriate type for the stamp I am trying to identify.
The exclamation mark is a suggestion to use the site on your cell phone I just ignore it ....
Last evening I decided to try to identify a handful of stamps that I have been unable to find in my catalogues.
After an hour of thoroughly frustrating myself I loaded up Colect, typed in the country and did a search by face value for 5 of the stamps and up popped exactly what I was looking for.
I also tried the search by image for one stamp from Brecquou without any luck even though I did find the stamp by using the search by face value within the Country Brecquou listings.
Saved hours of searching!
