I just checked my Canada Unitrade and there are untagged versions mentioned - 594T1 - $60, 598T1 - $60, 597T1 and T2 - $60, and with 595 and 596 certain varieties are mentioned as tagged and with others it doesn't specifically say, what ever that means! It might mean that some were tagged and some were not but your guess is as good as mine. Surely some slipped through without being tagged! I hope this helps a little bit!!
Looking in the Unitrade catalogue all stamps 594 to 598 show Type l Type ll and are identified as tagged. they have OP2, OP4 and W2B. Only 594, 597 and 598 show untagged as T1 and/or T2. I wonder if someone else has found some?
Here's a quote from my Unitrade. "Over the years , OP4 tagging has migrated to the point that individual stamps may appear to be untagged (i.e.faded). Untagged errors should have a certificate of authenticity. OP2 tagging is stable and does not migrate."
Edit: I collect Canadian varieties but mainly concentrate on ones that are easily seen. I am also mostly staying away from that series and the Centennial one. It would be possible to build a collection based on those two series alone. The number of pages they take up in the Unitrade is incredible!!
My suggestion would be to keep any OP4 tagged stamps away from other stamps. The OP4 tagging will migrate through paper and to other stamps.
'I' wouldn't even put them in the same album as the OP2 tagged stamps.
You could end up with a lot of damaged stamps if you are not careful
Though far (far!) from being an expertiser of Canadian stamps, and certainly this series of stamps, I several times gambled on a couple listed for sale as untagged errors. Upon receiving the stamps and examining them closely, not only with UV light but also a good magnifier, I discovered that it was discernible that there had been a "stripe" down each vertical side of the stamps. I returned them to the seller for a refund and he sent me a glassine of other copies of this error to verify if any met my satisfaction. None did; they all showed this vague remnant of stripes of taggant. He suggested I did not need to return the glassine full of rejects. All I therefore can suggest is to look very carefully with good light and magnification for the appearance of a "ghost" stripe down each vertical margin, which in all likelihood is the point from which the OP4 tagging migrated elsewhere.
Through total luck I have almost always put my tagged stamps in crystal mounting which, according to some reading I have done, tends to protect other stamps and keep the tagging in place. Total luck, not planned, but maybe everyone else should start doing the same!
going through a hoard of stamps I found one of each stamp untagged . In the Scott catalogue (2016) it does not show untagged for numbers 595 and 596. Does anyone know if they exist or am I seeing things wrong? Thanks for your comments.
