Many collectors have found the same frustration with exhibiting.
Many of those have found the best answer for themselves is the "non-competitive" entry. Free's you up to do just what you want. Ask yourself if you really care about that "vermeil" -- a relatively meaningless award, or just want to let other people see your stuff? The award at that level is only meaningful if you want to use the critique to enhance your collection according to the judges' opinions so that you can become more competitive at a higher level.
Bob Ingraham has made some terrific posts on this subject in the past. Maybe we can encourage him to add to this thread?

Yes if you do not care about awards ("We don't need no stinkin' badges") do what you want. However you may want feedback to improve it but not to collect a higher award.
I was an editor of a philatelic newsletter and entered it into the literature competition to see what they said. I was dinged in the scoring for not having an index (I did have a table of contents). I did not go to the show.
I am in the process of rewriting the Exhibit upload process to make is very easy and straight forward to up load your exhibits into our Exhibits section. It will be available very soon.

Thank you, Tim;
I'm looking forward to using the function/process when you are done!
I am not new to collecting but a bit of a newbee when it comes to exhibiting . I have entered the local shows with a few exhibits and I am always perplexed when it comes to submitting a synopsis. Honestly it is the reason that I hesitate to partake in shows.
I have read a few articles and read several synopsis` that accompany exhibits when they are available to the public.. They seem to be in detail and a bit overwhelming. Are they suppose to be that way or in general a summary of what to look for when a critic or judge is viewing the exhibit?
If any members can advise me or make suggestions I would welcome them.
I enjoy collecting and putting together my items for articles but exhibiting not so much
