This was a Linns "tip of the week" many years ago. A friend of London Bus in Israel used to collect them and i would send them to him. I still have a bunch but i would need quite a few plastic stockpages to put them in order. I am partial to the imperfs.
Thx for sharing the "Tips" article.
If you wish, will send you listings from SG catalogue. Which are more detailed than Scott.
One of my new favorite online philatelic resources is World Stamps Project.
WSP recently added a further eight Hradcany (pronounced hrad-chan-ee) illustrations and descriptions, and now includes details re 50-plus plating varieties specific to the 20h value.
The WSP sites includes variety details regarding the full Hradcany series, produced 1918 - 20.
The demise of the Austro-Hungarian Empire resulted in the declaration of an independent Czechoslovakia on Oct 28, 1918.
Renown graphic designer Alfons Mucha was enlisted to design the first Czech stamps, and selected St. Vitus Cathedral at Hradcany Castle as his subject. The first issues were released on Dec 18, 1918, marking the birth of Czech philately.
According to WSP, "The production was marked by post-war chaos. The printing office was not prepared for the printing of stamps, there was a shortage of needed materials, machines for letterpress were obsolete, all this resulting in a number of defects and deviations."
The Hradcany issues present a great opportunity for the "variety hunter". Numerous perforation, shade, and printing varieties. And the material is readily available and reasonably priced.
