Thanks for the tip re Subway book sale.
Sadly, they are not what they used to be. I wonder when Scott decided to sell direct they lost a lot of business. They were my go to supply seller and often seen at shows. They always seemed to be out of stock and their shipping pricing methods penalized small orders.
Angore.
Agree on all counts.
Subway Stamps' business model is what a colleague of mine refers to as "aspirational" stock.
I have dealt with Subway, and Scott for decades. I used to be a Scott Authorized Dealer.
With Scott, before Amos purchase, they wanted to be their own supplier. They reduced the dealer discount, and required dealers to sell at least $10,000 of Scott products per year in order to be an authorized dealer. Of course, that excluded most dealers from providing Scott products.
Subway continued to provide dealers with Scott products too, but at reduced discounts that made the pricing too close to retail.
After Ira passed away, his widow, Virginia, took over operations at Subway. She changed many of the practices that made Subway a good wholesaler to dealers. There were a couple of great employees at Subway who worked the wholesale area. Unfortunately they both passed away several years ago, and just months apart.
I rarely deal with Subway anymore. Virginia a couple of years ago backed off from the primary operations. Subway went into a reorganization, and they made outreach to the dealers on their list. Many G&K products were discontinued, and other promised projects were abandoned. I haven't been in contact with them in some time, but their service seems to have improved from the Virginia era.
I realize I took the thread off topic but what if Subway started selling licensed Steiner pages and supplies under the G&K brand?
Their shipping fees are mostly based upon value NOT weight. I usually went to Global for mount orders because free shipping above $35 and was the deal deal up to around $60. This was around 2 years ago. I think a company has to be more creative with shipping cost options has an advantage for small item orders.
Most orders are shipped by 2-3 day express or parcel post to the contiguous 48 states.
Accessories Minimum $7.50 Stamp Orders Orders up to $75.00 add $7.50
Orders over $35.00 add 12% Orders over to $75.00 add $9.50
Orders over $100.00 add 10%
Orders over $250.00 add 8%
Not sure where they are from but this far exceeds listings I have seen in the past. Literally dozens of hard to find stuff on Canada towards the end.... offer came in an email if you are on their customer list - otherwise (harder to user)
