It was me that told SOR what a wonderful US book he posted and I bought a color variety of an older US item at a very good price, less than 10% CV. It hasn't arrived yet but it probably will very soon, and I'm sure I'll be very pleased with it! I'll let you know!
There are many threads dedicated to complaints about approval pics, content, but no threads thanking the sellers who do a nice job and sell for peanuts. Let’s give them a round of applause and appreciation for their time and effort. Let’s see some upbeat, positive posts! Let’s make this an active, ongoing thread!
I received my purchases from David yesterday as well.
A speedy transaction, thanks.
I received mine yesterday s well - great material at great prices.
I have been very happy with several of my purchases recently. Thanks to a few of my regular sellers:Comet66, Grampadennis, Kool, MikeR5, Siem and Dell4C
Thank you to Torchwood, aka David C, for a small, but very nice Japan approval order. He deserves some kudos for the excellent packaging. There was a nice mix of stamps on the cover and the envelope, a photo-mailer, was a nice weight - clean, white, and no need to scrounge the recycle bin for additional stiffeners. And it wasn’t heavy enough to cause a big postage increase. I’ll have to buy those the next time I’m low on envelopes. He also used a crisp, clean glassine - so much nicer than an icky, stinky old ratty cellophane.
It’s the little things, you know what I mean? Thanks again, David!
Thank you to Mikek for helping me to fill many empty spaces in my Sweden collection. The quality of the stamps he sent was excellent - thanks, Mike!
Mike also placed the recent floral stamp slightly left and down so that it wasn’t obliterated by the wavy cancels. I ended up with an attractive used copy of a very recent stamp which I didn’t have. (yay!). I wish more collectors would follow his example.
Looking forward to your future approval books, Mike.
The Approvals aspect of Stamporama is a key benefit for me.
In just under fours years have purchased nearly 7,000 stamps, cinderellas, and labels from several fellow Stamporama members.
Each transaction has gone without a hitch except for the first one. And that was due to user error (on my part).
Appreciate the "billboarding" (promoting soon-to-be-released books) which a few sellers offer.
Given many of my purchases are from sellers located outside the U.S., appreciate the extra effort made to include a nice variety of postage stamps from the seller's home country.
Have discussed the positives and negatives of the SOR approvals program with a few fellow SOR members. Given I am only a buyer (and not also a seller on SOR), I gravitate toward nicely presented/well organized books. Appreciate the extra time/effort such books require. However, as my seller "partners" may attest, this typically results in higher volume purchases and greater overall revenue.
Lastly, appreciate the willingness of some sellers to consider requests for certain future material.
Hope the preceding is received positively by the SOR seller community.
I have received very nice stamps lately from Countrybearstamp, Brechinite and JohnnyStamp. Thank you.
My pleasure and thanks for your purchases.
I see this has not been updated in a while so here goes!
This goes out to Dennis Vickery...aka...grampadennis.
I've bought from him a number of times and each time was a GREAT transaction! I'm just finishing up another monthly buy and I am sure this is going to go as great as the previous ones!
So here is your public thank you Dennis!
Mike (brookbam)
I really don't want to mention names in case I leave someone out but I have got many magnificent items over the few years I've been a member of SOR and I'd like to say thank you to the excellent sellers we have on this site!
A Big THANK YOU!! to all the Stamporama members who have purchased stamps from me over the last few years. I attempt to supply nice stamps and good service. I appreciate all of you. Lots more Stuff in the works.
Here goes another....
This time to Bill Short (EvergreenBill)
First time purchase from Bill in the Approvals section. All the ZIP blocks that I purchased came nice and flat and looked Post Office fresh. He shipped right away instead of waiting to the end of the month (which would not have been an issue either...I do NOT mind sellers that wait to the end of the month...I have actually gone back and added to my order in the mean time...anyway....)
A great shout out to Bill Short aka EvergreenBill!
Working on another first time purchase....stay tuned!
Mike (brookbam)
I wish this thread would get used more! Say thanks! Give multiple shoutouts to your sellers!!!!
I am WAY behind in giving my own shoutouts! Since I would have posted a separate thread for each sale, I'll do that here.
For the first...
Frank Stajenda (eugen01). I ended up with a small space topical collection from another stamp collecting website and that small collection got me into collecting space topicals. Frank had a nice collection of space topicals and I bought them all. It was a beautiful collection. I'll buy some more later on down the line. It was a flawless purchase!
Mike
This one goes out to Paul Kuehn (cva59).
I'm collecting up large quantities of plate blocks. I probably need to slow down now and start an inventory to see what I have. My goal is to collect matched corners of all the serial numbers of as many stamps as I can reasonably afford. But I should be able to get a good portion of the .03 from the 1940s and on up. Well...Paul helped me trrrrrrr....eamendously on this endeavor! Not only did I buy individual plate blocks but I also got a large quantity of matched sets too!
I received a LARGE USPS Flat Rate Box (the square one about 6" tall...not the pizza box) that is PACKED! As a bonus, when he found out what I was doing, he also included a quantity of #4 display cards to see how I would like them over #4 glassines.
My daughter and 3 grandkids are going to come over and help me inventory. They don't know what they are in for....
This place is awesome!
Mike
A big thank you to mikek5, Michael Kleintank for quick delivery of the 50 first day covers I purchased from his approval books.
Mike is selling giving away very clean Fleetwood first day covers for a quarter each!
I just got an amazing selection of material from Eric Fried in Australia. It was mailed on Dec 12 and to get from Australia to Canada in just over 2 weeks seems very good to me! Amazing stuff and I now have some great material from several countries to work on over the holiday weekend! Thanks Eric and all you people who complain about mixed world books should really check more of them out.
Just got back from the mail and brought home two great selections from SOR! I don't trade very often since, because I stay away from stamp lots, I rarely have traders. But this time I happened to have an item that Tom Kemp wanted and Tom had a few items that I wanted. I ended up with a group of incredible Canada varieties that I would have probably never seen anywhere else!! Thanks Tom!
I also have to thank Jose Tormo. One area I started collecting a short time ago is media type stamps related to comics, movies, books, super heroes, etc. and I just got a wonderful group of souvenir sheets from Jose. I hesitate to say I collect the material, I just pick up what appeals to me rather than everything! I know at least one sheet appealed to someone else since it ended up being "hot"!
I am almost embarrassed to admit I am interested in comic characters. If I admit to being a fan of Pepe La Pew I must be a sexist (I'm not even going to attempt to spell misogynist, no way!). Anyone who enjoys watching The Roadrunner must be into extreme violence and GOK what someone would be labeled as if they were a fan of Elmer Fudd with all his guns. And Heaven help us if we admitted to liking Daffy Duck, we would be making fun of people with speech impediments. That's enough on that topic!! So thanks Jose!!
Just got back from the mailbox on the corner, and must admit to my sunny, optimistic nature being heavily "bruised" by Canada Post. Five days short of two months since a packet of stamps was mailed from a nearby city in Canada. Sigh, I was really looking forward to putting those stamps into my collection. At this point, I am assuming there is no recourse, and that purchase must be considered a total write-off. Just like my Fed income tax mailed last year (luckily for me, no cheque inside). So, thanks Canada Post! Can I assume that you have changed your hiring criteria over the last few years?
As for the sender, I have not yet informed him/her, but will by personal message once I post this.
I have only the greatest satisfaction and appreciation for all the Stamporama members from whom I have purchased stamps over the years.
I was informed by a local postal worker that there is someone in the area who is stealing likely looking mail occasionally but they hadn't figured out the culprit yet. Don't take offence at this but there are way too many sellers here that insist on sending pretty envelopes covered with vintage stamps. Even though the thought is appreciated it is putting a "steal me" sign on the envelope. You really should cut this out! Again, the stamps are nice to get, but I'd rather have what's inside!!
Joe,
when you purchase a lot, remind the seller that you'd prefer the current definitive or a meter. None of us will remember your preferences, and none of us will object to being reminded of them.
David
It's not really a matter of preference, I don't think any sellers should be "prettifying" their envelopes. It really is asking for trouble, eventually. I have been very very lucky so far but sometimes I get very expensive orders sent with gorgeous stamps attached. I really don't think it's a smart thing to do. A few sellers realize this and are using plain envelopes with just metered postage or simple stamps. I'm not exaggerating, I've gotten orders where the value of the stamps used in mailing is higher than the enclosed order. I love the stamps and save some of the covers that I really like but I think it is not a smart thing to do. There are thieves out there and they are very hard to catch. This is all just IMHO!
I have to disagree with you Harvey. I am a collector who like postally used stamps and I appreciate getting mail with nicely cancelled commemoratives. I like David's suggestion for the buyer to notify the seller if you want something that would not draw any atterntion.
Roger
I like getting the stamps as well but in 90% of the time I just pass them on!! I have very little interest in newer material, I'd much rather have what's inside the envelope. But we are all different and that's a good thing. From now on for purchases I make I will ask the seller to keep it simple.
One of the reasons for multiple stamps on the envelope is that sellers use old postage, that otherwise is really almost useless, to save buying the current postage or label.
I always post thanks after receiving my purchases, but often wonder if the sellers read the "received" message, I'm sure some will have so done.
I really do understand but I still think it makes the envelopes stand out a bit. But I guess I can live with that. I've been very lucky so far but how about a compromise? I the order is more than just basic material maybe the seller can be a a bit less garish with the stamps. It's just that I've noticed a few sellers are not selling outside the US because they are worried about items disappearing. I thought my suggestion might help, but maybe not!
The title of this thread is
" Happy with your Stamporama purchase? Say thank you here!"
I sell some books that are no longer of use to me but even in the rare case they are in English, I confine my sales to the Netherlands. Sending an average book within our country would cost me around 4 euros, but if I were to send it to the USA it would be 21 to 25 euros depending on the weight, plus a percentage custom tax. No one is going to pay about 30 euros extra (at least I wouldn't), so I just don't bother.
I stopped selling books from Thailand outside of the country after the post office stopped cheaper international parcel mail at the behest of the US. Now I only post books within Thailand. For my publishing business I can release books, both paperback and eBook editions, internationally through the likes of Amazon. The end of cheap international mail is a shame. Although it was targeted at a very individual place, it managed to hurt a lot of innocent businesses.
I do miss the days of "Book Rate" when it was cheap to mail books by mail.
When moving, it was easier and cheaper to put heavy college books in the mail than travel with them.
That was a time many here still remember.
rrr...
The media rate (book) is still a bargain. I mailed a package yesterday and cost $12 via USPS Ground Advantage. The media rate was less than half.

I just got a $5 Canada Victoria Jubilee stamp to finish the series mint. It's an excellent copy I picked up from Pierre-Yves! It's nice to have the page complete, it's taken a long time to end up with the mint series. Some are MH but a few are MNH. The photo isn't great but I didn't want to press the page down for a scan. The mounting also gives a bit of a glare but it's not too bad!! A nice page!!
In the mail today I got one e-bay lot and seven different StampoRama lots!! Thanks to everyone!! We have another storm coming tomorrow afternoon and now I have lots to do!! Thanks again!!!
Are you pleased with your Stamporama purchase? Then why not take a moment to thank the seller for doing a great job?
Thank you to David Mower! (User name old man) The approval stamps are great and the bonus gift was a pleasant surprise! Plus the delivery speed was amazingly FAST and arrived in a hand cancelled forever rate envelope. Nicely done! Kudos!
