You can automate feedback settings in Ebay, as I do. I stored six positive comments, one of which is left at random when a customer pays. Once payment has been made, the buyer has "done their bit" and deserves feedback
"the buyer has "done their bit" and deserves feedback"
I am with Dave on this one - I provide the buyer with feedback immediately after I ship and use it to notify the buyer that I shipped the item.
That said, since ebay no longer allows a seller to give negative feedback to a buyer (all buyers have perfect feedback) their lack of giving feedback may be philosophical. You might want to consider that giving negative feedback should not be taken lightly - it is a permanent stain on the sellers reputation and it may cause them to block you. My only negative on ebay (1998?-2007) out of 4000 orders (not items) was from a buyer who purchased an item on Dec 11th, their check arrived Dec 22nd It was a gift to their father and the complaint was that it didn't arrive by Christmas. Yes, I blocked them.
Do you want to buy stamps or get colored stars which no seller is ever going to look at since buyers can't be given negatives?
Feedback?

No, it does sound a bit petty on my part. I would never give a seller negative feedback unless it was something really serious. I didn't realize, since I don't sell there anymore, that a buyer could not be given negative feedback, seems a bit unfair! But I do know that things are really skewed in the buyers favour after listening to a few friends who still sell there. A lot of games being played, one reason why I don't want to sell on E-Bay again.
Ebay.....what is the point of feedback if you aren't allowed to leave all kinds of feedback? Has hurting someone's feelings now leeched into the philatelic world? Whether I am buying or selling, negative feedback can (not will) affect my decisions. I occasionally run across a stamp I'd like to buy, but the pic is a bit blurry, or there is no pic of the rear. I will look at feedback of the seller for any complaints of poorly or misidentified stamps (ignore my recent post in "Can you ID this").If I see history of this I may not purchase the stamp.
As a seller, the worst feedback isn't the negative guff from the occasional oddball, or the neutral nothingness.
The worst is when you've inserted a pristine stamp into a rigid stock card and sealed it in plastic, using invisible tape so it peels easily, printed a packing slip, inserted it all into an envelope, again sealed with invisible tape, selected the most attractive stamps you can find for postage and mailed it all within one day, for the buyer to leave one-word feedback like "OK" or "good". THAT sucks.
I just checked to see but there is no problem with leaving Negative Feedback. I could right now leave Negative Feedback to someone whose stamp didn't arrive. I tried just to see if it would work. I am not going to since it's not his fault.
Yes, a buyer can still leave negative feedback for sellers but a seller cannot leave negative feedback for buyers - it's been that way for a relatively long time.
I rarely leave feedback, partly because I don’t plan my days very well but mainly because…why? I don’t buy anything in a brick-and-mortar store and assume that it’s my responsibility to “leave feedback”. Isn’t enough “feedback” provided by the money — my money — that I give sellers, in addition to a “Thank you” in face-to-face transactions, in return for reasonable service and the quality of the merchandise they sell to me? I spend quite enough time in front of my computer, thank you, without having to spend more time with “feedback”. Can’t sellers see that if their business is meeting their goals they require doing a good job? Or that if they are heading for “bankruptcy” they need to to engage some self-assessment and perhaps ask qualified advisors for help?

I guess I'm a bit strange, but I was always told that saying "thank you" was a good thing to do. When I get an item I want and like it seems like I have a duty to say "thank you" by giving feedback! I just takes a minute or less and should make everyone feel a little better. Even if the seller doesn't give a damn if I give feedback it makes me feel a bit better. And if I give feedback to them they should do the same for me, even if it is set up to be done automatically. It only seems like the right thing to do!!
I know this is petty but there are more and more E-Bay sellers not giving feedback and I find it annoying. I know it's that one extra thing a seller has to do but there is at least one person I am about to take off my list of people I'll buy from! I always give feedback and always thank people for material on SOR as well, it's only common courtesy. When I go into E-Bay it always tells me how many people I have not given feedback to yet since I only give feedback after the item is received and checked, of course! Do E-Bay sellers get the same reminder? Just curious!
Edit: There are a few SOR sellers who never enter when an object is sent. As a buyer it really help to know when items are on the way, please! I also know there are buyers who don't say when they receive an object. This is wrong as well! If I were a seller I would like to know if an item actually showed up or was lost in the mail somewhere. Again, just my opinion and I know some of you think these things are important. My mother always told me to say "please" and "thank you". If you don't do these things I think it reflects badly on both you and your parents!
"the buyer has "done their bit" and deserves feedback"
I do leave feedback for the buyer when i ship an item, HOWEVER 0 think about how you would feel if you were a seller on Ebay and sold a really nice antique for $400. You give the buyer great feedback. A month later he files a SNAD (significantly not as described) stating the item is a fake. You know it is OK but tell him to ship it back. He emails you (xc to Ebay and Paypal) that he is returning the item and provides a tracking number. Box weight is identical to what you sent but the box is carefully packed with ..................rocks. It happens, first - you are probably out the $400 because you have no proof of what happened and Ebay usually sides with the buyer (as does Paypal, though not always) and they will take the money from your bank account to give to the buyer if you refuse to refund.
As painful as that is, even worse is the fact you are not allowed to give a negative to a buyer UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, and others sellers look at your feedback and assume the guy is OK.
Not the same as your issue but a lot of buyers feel feedback is useless, or worse and don't play the game anymore.
"When I go into E-Bay it always tells me how many people I have not given feedback to yet since I only give feedback after the item is received and checked, of course! Do E-Bay sellers get the same reminder? Just curious!"
It is quite simple.
Ebay feedback is a total waste of time.
To a seller it is meaningless. To a buyer it is meaningless.
If someone is going to scam you they will scam you no matter what the feedback says about them.
I only spend $20 at any one time. I am prepared to lose $20.
For any larger amount I want to physically see what I am spending my money on.
Yes I am a dinosaur but money

" I haven't sold on E-Bay for about 20 years and things were very different back then!"
It really doesn't matter how much things have changed, it still doesn't hurt to say "please" or "thank you" by leaving feedback!!
Kinda silly for sellers not to leave feedback since there is a function where eBay automatically sends feedback for sellers. I have that in place and check to make sure it's working from time to time because it would be like eBay to screw it up!
But there are people that go out of their way to leave nice feedback! I am apparently "one of the kindest sellers..."! It made my day, and makes me happy. When I am down and out and feel like nobody likes me, I go read my eBay feedback!

Courtesy and good manners are always the right path to take. Reaching out to fellow SOR folk is also good. Making friends, and connecting is the best of course, and that is the direction we could improve upon going forward. Never lose sight of the star-you all have friends here. Will Rodgers was once asked about 'strangers' and he replied "a stranger is just a friend I haven't met yet"- words to live by.

I have a seller I buy from regularly. i was giving him good feedback but he wasn't giving me feedback. i asked him about it and he's say he doesn't have time to give feedback. So I quit giving him feedback. Only reason I still buy from him is he has good prices (almost as good as mine-LOL).
Carl. I have the same problem exactly. There's a person I have bought several items from - I collect postmarks from Queen's County, Nova Scotia and I've picked up a couple hard to get ones from this buyer. She only leaves feedback if I remind her and I don't like doing that. I'll continue to buy from her but I won't leave feedback for her. Not a big deal since I like the person - she gives most of her E-Bay income to a charity! It just seems like the solution!!
I have one person I have bought from on E-Bay who never seems to post feedback. The stuff is great and I always give her excellent reviews. If I can go to the trouble of doing this little thing why can't she? Can you leave a negative comment about a person who sells great stuff just because they can't be bothered to give feedback? Am I getting peeved about nothing? Any comments?
