Thanks for that, T!
As Robert Redford said so thoughtfully in "The Natural" - "...God I love baseball..."
Actually, I kinda had you in mind when I posted this, Randy. Figured it would be a fun surprise while moderating posts, eh? Glad you enjoyed it!
FYI, the Met’s spring training field is 1/2 mile from my house, so started following the Mets a bit. Last year we were disappointed that the Tigers didn’t come here for a Spring Training game - hope they are on the schedule with the Mets next year. It’s so much fun chatting with lots of Michigan folks, makes me homesick!
I use Yogi-isms quite often as quotes that show up on the bottom of my posts. I can't figure out if he was bright and said a lot of these things on purpose or if he's wasn't so bright and they just happened. It really doesn't matter, a great catcher, a great hitter, a great Yankee and a great personality. I remember reading a story once about him and his family having lunch somewhere and Yogi said something profound. One of the sons supposedly said "Mom, dad just came up with another one!". I was never a Yankees fan, but will always be a Yogi fan!
I could respond to a LOT of what you mentioned here Harvey, but if I do so, this should be continued in the Off-Topic threads.
That’s a great idea, Randy - move the thread to off-topic section.
No need, I'll cut and paste the last part of my comments to another thread.
Done!! I'm sorry if I got a bit off topic. Since most of it refers to the Yankees I thought it was sort of relevant. My bad, and it is fixed!!
I have never heard of this guy but I suppose Yogi Bear was inspired by him? At least the name was.
His one liners are very funny and remind me of those in Dutch by our most famous football player Johan Cruijff:
"If I wanted you to understand it, I would have explained it better."
"What is speed? The sports press often confuses speed with insight. See, if I start running slightly earlier than someone else, I seem faster."
"Why couldn’t you beat a richer club? I’ve never seen a bag of money score a goal."
"I'm not religious. In Spain all 22 players make the sign of the cross before they enter the pitch. If it works all matches must therefore end in a draw."
"Playing football is very simple, but playing simple football is the hardest thing there is.”
"To win you have to score one more goal than your opponent."
Complete books have been written about Johan Cruijff's philosophy...

Continuing with Philatelia's posting;
I love all the baseball stamps the US has issued thru the years, ever since Scott #855 - the 100th anniversary of baseball.
I was quite happy to go to the show in Chicago and get the opportunity to buy some Yogi FDC's at that show with special color cancels on some of them.
I'm not a big American sports fan because I grew up outside of the country. But I can watch baseball before I'd watch football!
I recently came into a huge hoard of what was advertised as first day covers. But it's got tons of event and anniversary covers as well. The guy who amassed this had to be a big baseball fan because I've got loads of baseball related covers. I haven't even approached it yet, but watch my eBay store!
Years ago a co-worker asked me if this Baseball cover he’d inherited was worth anything. LoL
(I only have a black & white photocopy of the cover - this was back before phones with cameras.)
Much of the world is watching the World Cup, but we’re talking Baseball. heh heh
"Hey there, Boo-Boo!"... Oh sorry, I got confused with Yogi Bear!
Put a smile on your face with these Yogi-isms; (copied from ESPN website)
10. "It's like deja vu all over again."
9. "You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six."
8. "The future ain't what it used to be."
7. "We made too many wrong mistakes."
6. "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."
5. "You can observe a lot just by watching."
4. "You should always go to other people's funerals; otherwise, they won't come to yours."
3. "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."
2. "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical."
1. "It ain't over 'til it's over."
