Do not actively look for minor errors, but if I happen to come across them I'll keep the stamp and note the reason. Not so easy with used stamps, especially if a heavy postmark.
Did not get into paper differences but do collect perforation varieties, some of which seem scarcer than Unitrade prices suggest. I picked up a couple of bags at our last club meet and have been sorting those looking for the items my collection is missing. Did manage to fill some gaps, but amazing how many are damaged when they are finally soaked.
Even found a few 926A, the 36c Queen definitive and 781a the 1c flower booklet stamp.
Still looking for some of the animal def's perf variations.
A short story that's somewhat relevant. It was in the late 1970's and my wife and I were going by plane from NS to Alberta and we had our stamp collection with us in one of our suit cases. It didn't take up much space at the time. Somehow one of our suit cases had been opened and the Canadian collection had been gone through. Thankfully whoever it was was very stupid!! The person only took a few newer items that they figured they could use as postage and ignored the older more valuable stuff. The reason I mentioned this is that I had a few unused booklet panes that had errors in them. One of the ones taken was called the "blunder book" in whatever source I was using at the time but I have no idea anymore what it was. Has anyone reading this heard the term before and can let me know what it was?
Hi Harvey
I was posted to Iran at the American Embassy. As usual I had my stamp collection in my hold baggage. This was November 1979. As everyone knows what happened. I never got my hold baggage and lost the stamp collection I was going to work on during my posting! I arrived on the 4th of November, but was able to get on the last plane out.
Close call. Too bad about the collection but comparatively small potatoes.
Harvey I have heard of the term before. There are quite a few Canadian stamp blunders that come to mind. The 2007 Lighthouse set issued in booklet format is one.

Back in the early days of collecting my wife and I used to search through many stamps looking for obscure ,and sometimes not, errors. A lot of it was pretty useless, things like donuts of colour, minor colour shifts, small taging streaks, etc. But every once in a while we ran into things a little bit more important and of course we saved everything. Lately I've been going through them and putting anything given numbers or letters in Unitrade in my Canada album. It's amazing what I'm finding!! Some of the dull paper stamps are worth reasonable amounts of money. I found #676 - 677, an untagged se-tenant pair that lists for about $100. I'm nowhere near finished, I haven't even looked at the Centennial series of definatives and there are many of those. I don't think I'll start looking for more but it's quite interesting to find some of this stuff that I'd just put to one side. Unitrade doesn't seem to list wavy tagging but they're fun to find anyway. Does anyone out there seriously look for this stuff?
