I would heartily agree that you did the right thing by informing the seller. I know this may hard to believe, but not all of us are omniscient. I have pulled a few whoppers in my day. However, sometimes a great deal is just that.
Harvey, this club needs more members like you!
I appreciate your honesty Joe.
Even if it wasn't me you were referring to, please feel free to send me some money...or another donation...
Cheers, Dave.
I don't consider that I did this out of honesty, I always try to be fair. It's a friendly site and no one should take advantage. I got in touch with the seller and he just wanted to sell the material. The stamps in question are early Poland material and, as any Poland collector would know, most of that material has been grossly reproduced. Even though I think the prices were a bit low it probably wasn't worth a heck of a lot anyway. On most of that type of material CV is totally useless since a certificate would be needed and in most cases that would be too expensive anyway. The particular stamp concerned is one I have bid on on E-Bay at about the $10 level and been overbid on. So 8 cents was a bargain for me, but what is a probable repro actually worth? I guess it's worth whatever we are willing to pay to fill the album page. It would probably do much better somewhere else though!! By the way, I need Poland #1 to really fill that page and I would never buy that without a certificate!!
I was looking at a new approval book a little time ago and managed to find a fairly expensive hard to get stamp for $0.08. I obviously bought the stamp and informed the seller that I would be more than willing to pay a fairer price. He also has other fairly hard to find items there. I know this is a friendly site so I think informing the seller was a fair thing to do. Did I do the right thing, or was it stupid? I'd like to think others would do the same.
