Unlikely it is rare. Post higher resolutions scans of both the front and back.
Trimmed perfs, Scott #406
Higher res photos. Does not looked trimmed to me, you can see the edge of the next stamp, also has sl w/m
" ... This stamp is a vertical coil, ..."
Really ?
It looks like a horizontal coil from the end of a roll or something..
Is there a Horizontal option that was trimmed?
All the Perf.12 coils are either FP & Type B or Rotary & Type C. Since it looks Flat Plate (setoff on back) and it is Type C, it must be Sn.406 with top and bottom perfs trimmed off. Which also means it has a SL watermark but those are quite hard to verify.
The top edge looks poorly trimmed.
Those early perf 12 coils have some value. This looks like a genuine no. 353 end of the roll coil. Cat value is 220.00.
Of that set, I only have the 5 cent no. 355. I found it in a box of kiloware and took it off paper myself. That one is valued at 300.00. You made a great find!
Between the post office figuring out the best way to produce coils and getting customers to buy them makes this early set scarce. The used stamps cat for twice as much as the MNH. Unusual.
It can not be a Sn.353. 353 is Type B (Two Cents vs 2 Cents). Image of 353 below:
Looks like I made a rookie mistake on that one. Always looking for those gems, though.
Get a copy of the Scott Identification Guide To US Stamps by Charles Micarelli , this is a must have for all students of US stamps 1847-1943, well worth the cost.
This stamp is a vertical coil, but perf is 12. Cannot find an answer anywhere. Is this a valuable stamp.
