Rural Free Delivery route?
Thanks Brad. Much appreciated.

Manuscript RFD cancel applied by the rural route carrier. Note that the stamp also has a manuscript cancel applied by the rural route carrier.

Thanks for the link to Wikipedia Randy. So the RFD #1 on the post card I have would have to be referring to a local #1 route rather than #1 route in the Post Office department, right? From the list of RFD beginnings by State in the Wikipedia page, there were many routes started in other parts of the country prior to in or around Minnesota.
Do I have that correct?
Exactly right.
Here is another RFD cover.
Rural Mail Carrier's are required to provide all the postal services a customer would receive at the counter of the town post office. The Rural Carrier's were basically Post Offices on wheels
This Rural Carrier had his own cancellation stamp which he used to cancel the letter on July 18. He probably collected 2 cents and put the stamp on the letter at the customer's mail box as well.
When he returned to the Saugerties, NY Post Office that afternoon it was back stamped as received.
It was back stamped in Transit at Oneonta, NY the morning of 19 July and received at Meridale, NY for local delivery that same day.
On the bottom of this card someone has written "R.F.D #1". Can anyone tell me what that refers to?
Regards ... Tim.
