Hello Al,
The 20c stamp on the left looks like Yang #160a Pale Scarlet. It was issued in 1951. I held my SG Stamp Colour Key up to the screen. It does not look Rose red to these old eyes. Paul.
My SG Hong Kong catalogue lists 4 varieties for the 50c, as follows:-
SG153, perf 14, Purple, 13/04/1938.
SG153a, perf 14.5x14, Deep Magenta, 28/09/1945.
SG153b, perf 14, Reddish purple, 09/04/1946.
SG153c, perf14, Bright purple, Chalk surfaced paper, 09/04/1947.
Sg also lists the deep magenta as 153ab, printed on both sides, inverted on reverse, being fairly rare with a price of uk £1200 mint.
The 20c has 2 listings, Sg148, Scarlet vermilion, 01/04/1948.
SG148a, Rose red, 25/04/1951.
There are many shades as can be seen from this scan.
I have noticed differences in shades in these KGVI issues. Scott does not list any in standard or classic but SG does.
For the 50c, the left could be SG purple and the right could be reddish purple (l would say scarlet)
For the 20c, the only shades are rose red and scarlet vermillion. The right 20c looks scarlet vermillion but the left 20c does not have enough red to be either so likely just a poor life.
Thoughts?
