I do not see any difference on my screen.
The colors look very much the same.
Are we seeing the front AND BACK of the same stamp? If they were examples of both of the varieties, there would be a more obvious difference and wouldn’t the pics both be of the front or the back?
Anyways - my vote would be that this is RED
Here are a few from my key plates …
Pic follows - it refused to load on this post -very weird
I obviously wasn't too clear on my post. The pics are of the same stamp. The color possibilities in Stanley Gibbons are the two I listed.
Hope that makes sense.
No problem, bigcreek. These types of posts are fun - we get to exercise our philatelic “muscles” trying to identify varieties.
Go for it!
In my collection, I have an example of each of the six printings of this keyplate. (See scan for two of them). It isn't easy to distinguish the variations in color from the scan due to Stamporama's limits on scan sizes, but there is a very noticeable difference between the 5 March 1943 printing and the November 5, 1951 printing. Bear in mind that the majority of these stamps were produced in London during World War II. Paper and ink supplies were tight and it wasn't always possible to maintain the quality standards that De Le Rue (the printer) traditionally prided themselves on. Hope this helps.
Those are excellent examples! Thanks for sharing.
Alas, the Stamporama Gazette which is no longer being published, has in the last edition, Volume 5, Number 1-4 a German Color Guide. We all know that colors on a computer screen that have been scanned may be a little off but at least it gives you some ideas if you do not have a color guide in hand.
This is from an old one
Based on all the shades, I'm going with Red.
Thanks All
Just looking for some opinions if someone has one. SG has two...1) Purple and Black/ (RED), and 2) Pale Purple and Black/ (PALE RED). Quite a diff in value.
