Vincent van Gogh St. thomas & Prince Islands Scott #975
South Arabia stamps not yet listed by Scott.
Thanks
As a side note -
I will be going to see the Van Gogh exhibit in Grand Rapids this summer!
My favorite painter/artist
A Van Gogh exhibition in Grand Rapids Michigan? No offence, but that's an unusual location. Have they managed to get some paintings on loan or something?
May and June is a great time to visit the Tulip Festival and Tulip fields held in (Where else, pray tell ? ) Holland, Michigan.
The place is choking with Tulips and people selling bulbs.
...and yes, Charlie!
Holland Michigan is a wonderful place to visit when the millions and millions of tulips are all in full bloom!

(Okay - I think we hi-jacked this thread enough now!)
Jansimon.
No paintings on loan.
This is a virtual exhibition which has been touring several US cities for c 18 months now. Believe there are actually three versions of the touring show.
Its an interesting approach, and likely something which will become more commonplace as time goes by.
On a positive note, the touring exhibitions have exposed thousands upon thousands of people (to van Gogh) who otherwise would not likely have an opportunity to see the artist's works first-hand.
Is the van Gogh museum or Rijksmuseum at risk? Doubtful.
Recall a few yrs ago there was a small exhibition space in downtown AMS featuring a selection of recently digitized Rembrandt (van Rijn) works. Interesting. But hardly the same experience as viewing The Night Watch in situ.
Years ago there was a replica of the Vietnam Wall that toured this part of Florida. I remember that my son was the local Cadet Commander of the Lecanto High School Army ROTC Unit and in charge of the Honor guard.
These day, I'd be fearful that some local agent-provocateur would decide to attack the walls and the kids and their harmless drill rifles..
unlikely, Charlie
they really prefer kids who haven't finished third grade, people with their faces to God and backs to them, or really old people in long lines; someone in the ROTC who has some military training is a bit of a stretch
Hi Jim,
It is an interesting concept that will undoubtedly help to introduce Van Gogh (and possibly other artists) to people who do not go to a museum.
Although I am not a purist who thinks that such a digital experience is an outrage, I do think that one should see the real paintings when one has the chance. It is a bit like going to a concert and watch a hologram instead of an artist. Entertaining for sure, but not the same.
By the way, since you mentioned Rembrandt, here is the ultra high resolution picture of the Nightwatch. A 5.6 Terabyte, 717 Gigapixel photo.
One can zoom in to pigment particles that are 0.005 millimetre large.

This is the Dutch version, I am sure there must be an English language page as well, but could not find it right now.
Can someone help me find these in a scot cat. They are put out by the van Goch museum
