Zelda was one of the old timers when i was introduced to the club in the early 1970s...it took a while to warm up to her but over the years we became friends..when her husband passed away..Jopie and i would give her rides to the club meetings and at times we would visit and chat for a while. Towards the end she was pretty much confined to her bedroom and when visiting i would see a lot of mail order stamps that were sent to her lying around. In those days i could not understand why she was receiving all these stamps at this stage of the game. Now i understand...it was something that made her happy to receive things in the mail..and if some of the dealers never received their final payment..i am sure all in all they did not lose on the deal.

I agree Phil! On eBay I get small orders from the same people all the time. Some order a $1 cover and pay $1 postage every week, some even more often. I've let people know they can wait to pay for up to 3 weeks and I'll ship it all for one postage charge of $1, but they keep on doing it!

I finally reasoned that some folks like to receive and open that envelope every week!

Silence in the face of adversity is the father of complicity and collusion, the first cousins of conspiracy..

Exactamundo ! ! !

During my recent interregnum I have been packing and unpacking boxes for the big move to Ocala, which made stamping complicated. However most days were brightened by receiving stamp mail. Since the albums were/are packed, I simply opened the envelopes and after a brief smile set most of them in a banker's box to be worked on later.
However, several seem to have sneaked off on their own and will eventually be found when they get hungry enough for a nice crispy hinge.
Even so I have no doubt that at some point in mid 2023 an errant cover will appear and the prodigal stamps will bring joy to my world once again.
As the famous Colonel Ed Green once told an interviewer; "You do not understand what stamps can do to a man."
HUZZAR !
