Your image clearly shows the letters NSW in that order, left to right;
is that not correct??
The info you need is at the start of the States listings:
Musicman...you are correct, but it should read "WSN" from the back of stamp.
Thanks Dave....I'm not exactly sure what that sentence means. Does it mean they are common enough not to be varieties?
I love Commonwealth stamps, but geesh!....they can be a pain to pinpoint in SG.
"Thanks Dave....I'm not exactly sure what that sentence means. Does it mean they are common enough not to be varieties?"
Thanks for another lesson, everyone!
" ... Printers in GB were held to a higher standard. ..."
Which is why some UK definitives can be found with the watermark inverted, reversed, sideways left or sideways right, and I think both inverted and reversed..
With Australian state stamps, you have an equal chance of finding each of those errors, which is why they're unlisted and of no value. GB watermark varieties of the same period are scarce and listed
Dave...Do you really mean "of no value"? Or just no different that the proper configuration?
"Or just no different that the proper configuration?"
Thanks Roy...makes sense.
" .... If one is so inclined, one may choose to collect each of the possible configurations of the watermark, but as far as other collectors are concerned (and therefore market value), it will be no more than a curiosity that satisfies a purely personal goal. It is similar to the idea of collecting all possible straight edges of stamps that are produced that way.....
One is, me, except my interest in watermark variants It starts with the early Norwegian posthorns.
The watermark is ls a small posthorn and may be with the horn pointing left or right, and upright or inverted.
I also try to complete booklet panes of certain nations where there is either a straight edge or the perf's are cut straightly by the knife separator.
Value, what matter value to a stamper once he has closed his albums ?
Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries
Don't take it serious
Life's too mysterious
You work, you save, you worry so
But you can't take it with you,
When you go, go, go
Keep repeating, it's the berries
The strongest oak must fall
The best things in life to you were just loaned
So how can you lose what you never owned
Life is just a bowl of cherries
So live and laugh at it all
Life is just a bowl of cherries
You live and you laugh at it all

The watermark on this stamp is clearly reversed, but I see none of this variety in my Stanley Gibbons catalog. My eyesight sucks...maybe I missed it.
Thoughts?
