A rare strip of 1928 kookaburras showing dry inking. The puncture O S perfins (like certain overprint perfins) were added to the stamp to prevent staff pilfering them.

Dry ink is where the ink was not flowing to the plate in an optimum manner, most likely in very cold temperature where the viscosity of it moves slowly when poured and does not run as freely or evenly. Therefore the print impression is not well inked and looks a little dry or under-inked.

Hi Dave

When I was offered that variety I knew I had to have it, never seen one like it before. It is quite a stunner for a 94 year old stamp.
