I read recently that Canadians at the time didn't like this half-turned portrait of the king, compared to the later Medallion profile angles. To my 21st-century eyes, it looks more flattering and realistic than the royal mugshots.

There are tons of inverted pre-cancels on US stamps too.
1. Is this a precancel or just some sort of postmark? My Unitrade catalog lists precancels for #89 but does not have a picture. I have seen similar bar designs on a seller's page.
2. If it is a precancel, are inverted ones unusual?
