I could write a book on these (my "Sold database" has 332 entries for various issues over the years), but thankfully, I don't have to. Andrew Chung and Hank Narbonne already did.
It is mostly the "Canada Post Official" covers, but does include a section on Replacement cachets and special issues for foreign dignitaries etc.
Here is the beginning of the replacement cachet section. In fairness to copyright, I am only showing a snipet in the context of a review.
I can also take credit for the discovery of a hitherto unknown one not listed in the early issues of this catalogue.
If desired, will follow up with a a few examples of the different cachets used over the years.
Canada Post no longer uses these. They now replace damaged covers with either a blank cover, or an official FDC produced by them.
The catalogue should be available from Unitrade. I do not know what edition they are currently in.

P.S. I just found a gently used one (4th edition) on my shelf, if there is any interest. Unfortunately, it would have to be sent as a parcel, so shipping will be the largest part of the cost.
Thankyou very much Roy
Yes I would love to see a few samples of the replacement covers . I sat in on a ZOOM presentation on replacement covers just last week. That triggered my interest in finding out more about the practise. I have one cover in my possession . Thankyou. If you wish to part with your copy please message me . I would also like to hear more about your discovery as well

Here you go:
This covers most of the cachet types. Not shown here are the few Rosecraft cachets that were used for a few issues, and the scarce "Coat of Arms and Stylized Maple Leaf in Shield Design" that is known on four issues of 1964 to 1970. I have never had one of those.
The Rainbow cachet of the 8c Parliament was the "discovery" I was talking about. It was not listed in the first edition of the Chung/Narbonne catalogue and was subsequently listed after I found and sold one to a collector active in those FDC circles. A conversation with Andrew Chung at a Toronto stamp show confirmed that this sale was the source of the listing.

Excellent information I have a copy of the first example with a letter of apology . Now I know what I am to watch for while surfing the net !!!Apparently most of the early replacement covers were hand written to the sender. Later there was a typed address used . That`s about all I know.
Thankyou Roy !!

I see a number of Canada FDC replacement covers on ebay. I researched this a bit and discovered that for a period of time if prepared FDC were damaged when Canada Post received them for cancellation that they were replaced with a Canada Post cover and mailed back to the sender. Do we have any collectors who could add more information to this procedure? Time frame ? Do they still do this ? etc Any information is appreciated .
