Good news!
Now if thy can just locate the small parcel sent to me
from Australia six or eight months ago, probably lying
in a dark, dank, secure, but abandoned locker in Outer
Slobovia.
I bought two (small) books from the US a couple of days ago. The books were $28, the postage was $72. The reason for the postage was stated to be "priority international is the only service available". Order promptly cancelled.
".... the postage was $72 ...."
It might be interesting to take one or two similar sized books
having equal weight to your local posties an just get the price
for the regular service and a similar service if available.
At this moment $72.oo USD = $100.50 AUD
A$13.50 including tracking for regular airmail, International Express A$36. Is the US taking the p**s??
Were they ordered from an independent dealer or off ebay? Easy enough to go to the USPS website and plug in weight and your postal code. If it was ordered off ebay all bets are off - it's probably their global shipping program.
Just looked this up for another member who is encountering some difficulties recently with envelopes sent to Australia getting waylaid, looking to protect both of us.
For Canada: Adding "Registered" to an envelope to Australia (no size limit specified) would add about $16 (in US$) with tracking available, and a limit on any claim for loss capped at just $48 (again in US$).
Seems usurious compared to Life/car/house insurance.
Dave.

Am happy to report that I was able to post three pkgs to Australia today via USPS. At prices similar to those in effect c Oct 2021.
