You get a pass on this toughie.
Bulgaria postal tax stamp, Scott #RA4. 30 cents in 2020.
Essentially a "charity" stamp.
To raise funds to support sanitariums for postal/telegraph/telephone workers and their families.
"Sanitariums" of the time were more associated with tuberculosis care than mental health.
Roy
Roy is correct. Especially during the first few decades of the 20th century.
Also, some "sanitariums' catered to the more affluent element of society. Restorative health, etc.
While still others had religious affiliation. (Google "WK Kellogg". Tt was more than simply bkfst cereal.)
Ya, I have been reminded about the purpose of sanitoriums. Thanks. Here's a graph I use in one of my presentations:
As you can see, TB was a big deal. Prior to systematic milk pasteurization, 1/3 of human TB cases were the result of consuming contaminated milk. The first pasteurized milk ordinance in the US was published in 1924, when deaths from TB were nearly 1 per 1000.
There are about 300 raw milk dairies in Pennsylvania, and every one of them gets TB tested every year, if they want to sell their milk.

PS, someone on SOR, I forget who, collects stamps that commemorate the worldwide push to eradicate malaria, of which there are many. I think most of these were issued in like, 1962. Anyway, public health would make a great topic for a collection, and this stamp could be an obscure, but significant part of it! The subject of the stamp reminds me of the castle in Young Frankenstein! Could it possibly be a sanitorium? If so, which one?
I do collect malaria related stamps and I am not the only one on SOR. True most are from 1962 since there was a push from WHO to eradicate it. The job was well done but still is not finished.
the anti-malarial stamps are interesting, and they remind me that in non-tropical climates, mosquitoes bring other pestilences, notably West Nile.
And I'm waiting for the Lyme-Aide Society to start issuing seals. I'd expect that they'd need two or more sites from which to order, say, at least a pair of sites.

Ouch
(Actually, am turning a light shade of green. A case of envy, I suspect.)
Nothing like setting up your own pun there, Mr. President!
David,
That's the best double pun of the year so far.

oh, I do love my adoring, acutely aware and appreciative audience.

Looks like you got all 'A's on that one, David.....well done.
