Tom, you didn't notice me at the Philippino beer pavilion drinking San Miguel beer ? i did make a purchase of a few covers at the Vatican exhibit when Jopie and i went to see the Pieta.
Thank you, Tom, for sharing the various WF items. Believe I was 9 yrs when my mother and grandmother took me to the Fair. Believe we traveled via subway.
Appreciate the photos of the GH Escorter and GMC "New Look" Believe a toy mfgr produced a metal version of GH coach in WF color scheme. Wish I still had it!
If anyone is still looking at this December thread, here's a cover signed by the New York Fair's postmaster, John J. Hogan. I don't know what his position was before or after the fair.
This one's for you Phil!
Just about everyone in the Tri-State area attended the 1964-65 New York Worlds Fair. I was six when my family went. I still remember the Ford carousel with new cars on it!
And of course my free range album allows me to do whatever I wish... so here's my pages for you all!
My first page has a rather large plate block, one of the corner singles I so love and an authentic ticket to the fair!
Page two has an map of the fair, with both forms of fair transportation pictured. The small scooter is the famous Escorter, which was available for a private and personal tour of the fair. The rest of us rode the train!
And I cannot forget the nice House of Farnum first day cover!
Two Official Souvenir Covers from the fair! One is hand cancel and the second one is machine cancel. Had to have both!
When you are buying memorabilia that will fit in your album, you just have to have the official road map to the fair!
Being a car guy, I'm rather partial to the Greyhound sponsored Escorters! Here's an official promo photo.
Here's an Escorter in action at the fair! I forget the fee for the personal tour, but it was enough that my father wasn't going for it! We took the tram! And that's a GMC "Fishbowl" bus in the background, a familiar sight in the country back then! I actually know where there is a restored one.
And trivia bonus! After the fair concluded, the Escorter fleet was sold to Atlantic City, NJ and served for many years on the boardwalk. A while back I watched the restoration of one of these originals on "American Restoration". Ever since that show I've wanted one!
This is a postcard from Atlantic City. Note the Escorter is missing the top, as well as the Greyhound advertising. The word "Escorter" is still on the front corners!
The one that got restored started out as an abandoned unit found in a New Jersey backyard... there must be more!
PS- Phil says he went to the fair. I didn't see him there!
