The first Christmas Seals were issued by Denmark in 1904, and the Danish West Indies introduced them in 1907.

Stumbled across this set of progressive proofs years ago and picked them up to complement my DWI collection. A copy of the issued seal is below.

We were blessed to have Anne Mette Heindorff as a member for a number of years; she was an expert on Danish Christmas seals and maintained a world-class website devoted to them.

I thought, given the season, I'd share a picture of my progressive proofs of Bermuda's 1946 and 1953 Christmas Seals with you.

Here is a 'full' set of the Danish West Indies Christmas seals:

Odd to think of the head of the colony's government as an emblem of Christmas...

To me, the most interesting one is the one from 1908, depicting Charlotte Amalie, who was queen consort to Christian V. Charlotte Amalie, the town, got that name in 1691, and still serves as the port for the island of St Thomas. Today, it is the largest city in the Virgin Islands. Charlotte Amalie died in 1714, 64 years of age.

Used examples of these seals on card or cover are quite uncommon.
