Row 2 page 17 I believe are Scott, 460, 460c, 543,544.
Row 2 page 18 are 460p, 543p, 544p.
Row 1 page 1 543, 544 and 549,550
Hopefully this is correct, it's how I interpreted the pages. Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Thank you, sheepshanks. That's actually where I was ending up, but it duplicates the appearance of #543 and #544. I haven't found any other duplications in the Steiner pages.
Hugh
Hugh, the Unitrade catalogue actually does list the last page separately but refers back to the previous numbers without actually listing the stamps. Hope that makes sense, there are no columns just the note.
I have Scott Standard 2009 and Unitrade 2022 as my references.
Scott lists the 4 in their numeric order, with the added note "See note below 468B". There is no such note under 468B.
Unitrade doesn't use numeric order, but lists the 4 amongst the earlier issues. In the numeric position where the 4 would otherwise appear, there is only the note "For Nos. 543, 544, 549 and 550, see the Centennial definitives (Nos. 454-468B)"
I see now that the two coil stamps, 549 and 550, are also duplicated -- in the last row of p 17 -- and that makes the whole page 1 / CANADA1980 redundant. I might suggest to Steiner that he eliminate the page.
Thanks again for helping me to work through this.
Hugh
Well that makes everything perfectly clear.
Let's see if I actually understand, or if coffee intoxication has finally set in;
There ia a coil stamp #549, which is also #543, 7¢Emerald Green
And also a #550, coil, which is also #544, 8¢ slate.
i see it in my poor tortured Unitrade, and have read the comments, posted, but do not see any reason given.
There must be something somewhere, so obvious that I can't find it. A change in paper type, or phosphor variant in the fine print.
Perhaps someone can explain.
Later.....
As I was searching all the notations and fine printing between the five pages of Centennial stamps and the curious remarks about these two stamps, with my trusty magnifier, i found the note about the BABN experimental printings 1968-1970 and wonder if there might be some connection. The note mentions that BABN printings generally have a more course perforation and one or more straight edges.
A puzzlement.
I've been remounting most of my WW collection onto Bill Steiner's pages for almost two years now. This is the first snag I've had so far in aligning with Scott No's.
I'd like help, please, to identify the 7c and 8c values in the Centennial definitives series as appearing on row 2 / page 17 and row 2 / page 18 in CANADA1970.PDF, and on row 1 / page 1 in CANADA1980.PDF. Any help appreciated!
Hugh
